Question 1

I have a motherboard with two fan connectors, one for the cpu which is hooked up to the cpu fan, and just one more fan header left for case fans.  The case fan header is four pin and the case has two three pin fans.  Will this cable allow me to hook the two three pin case fans to the single four pin motherboard fan header?

yes you can, this splitter supports 4/3pin fans
just be sure to set the motherboard to DC fan instead of PWM fan (check motherboard manaul under bios)
if you use to differnt model fans with it be sure to put the one with the lower startup voltage on the side with all 4 pins

don't mix 4 and 3 pin fans, the 3 pin becomes a 100% fan as if it was connected to the PSU directly

If I use two fans with this splitter can I control both speeds or will the both spin at the same speed?

given fans are the same model both will spin at the same speed
if you mix a pin fan and a 3pin fan the 3pin will run @100% all the time

if you want to control the fans separately you will need to get a fan controller (or a motherboard with more fan plugs)

Question 3

So my case allows for two top mounted exhaust fans, I can use this to hook them up together? Also in the picture it looks like the left female socket is missing a pin, is that normal?

Yes, you can use it to connect two pwm fans onto one pmw header on the motherboard. Since it would be confusing for the motherboard to monitor the rotation speeds of two fsns simultaneously, only one fan will need four pins (the fourth pin being for monitoring/reporting rotation) and the other fan will simply follow the morherboard's pulses based on the other fan's rotation reporting. In other words, one fan will be monitored by the motherboard, but both will spin at (basically) the same speed.

So, basically if your MOBO on has 4 fan connectors. You can buy 4 of these and have 8 fan connectors? Can you even use these with a fan controller?

yes you can use these with a fan controller. it would be better that way so you know it can handle the voltage. with the mobo you just have to make sure that the voltage ratings for the mobo can handle all 8 fans at full speed. otherwise you might reset your mobo every time that you hit fully rated capacity of the fans. also i noticed that these splitters do not just split the voltage or speed...both fans run at the speed that one fan would normally run at. however they seem to draw more voltage then one fan which is mainly what you have to be careful with. hope this helps...btw they are build like a dream.

Question 5

I have a pair of 3-wire fans in the front of my new case and only one PWM 4-wire Cha-Fan header available for them.
Will the 4-wire PWM splitter cable work normally with the 3-wire fans?

I see one of the splitter's connectors is 3-pins only because only one fan is needed to send the tach signal but it looks like that 3-pin connector has its third pin removed. When a 3-wire fan connector is attached to that one only two of its wires will be making contact. Is that because the third wire/pin is always for speed sensing even on the 3-wire fans?

You can use both your 3 pin fans with this without issue. If you bought 3 of them, you could probably daisy chain it to plug 4 fans into one plug on your motherboard, but quality of the motherboard does eventually become a factor.

Question 7

I have a software that control all my fans' rpm. Will the middle connector in the picture responded to the rpm setting that I have set using the software? or will it put the fan at a full speed instead since the second pin from left if missing, If i'm not mistaken, that missing pin is the one that is required to control speed in 3 pin fan.

If you are connecting the splitter to two identical model fans, then YES, both fans will be controlled to the required speed without problems.  However, you could easily experience problems when you connect the splitter to non-identical fans.

If you connect a 4-pin PWM fan to the 4-pin side of the splitter and a 3-pin voltage-controlled fan to the 3-pin side of the splitter, the PWM fan will display proper fan control while the voltage-controlled fan will spin uncontrolled at top speed.  This is because PWM fans control fan speed using the fourth pin connection while voltage remains constant at 12 volts.  To correct this problem, connect the 3-pin fan to the 4-pin side of the splitter and connect the 4-pin fan to the 3-pin side of the splitter... unless the maximum speed of your PWM fan is lower than the maximum speed of your voltage-controlled fan!  Yikes!!!

If you connect two non-identical PWM fans that each possess a different maximum fan speed, then you must connect the 4-pin side of the splitter to the slower fan and the 3-pin side of the splitter to the speediest fan to avoid fan control problems.

If you connect two non-identical voltage controlled fan that each possess a different maximum fan speed, follow the same instructions as for non-identical PWM fans (in the previous paragraph).

Anyway, none of this matters if you always connect your splitter to identical model fans!

Question 8

I have 2 fans (front chasis fans) and 1 back one but my motherboard only has 2 chasis fan connectors. So will this work to connect my 2 front fans that have a 4 pin connector? then i will use my other fan connector on my motherboard for my back fan. Would that be efficient for air flow or will I need a fan hub?

I did something similar (but 1 front 2 back), so I can confirm it'd *work* - whether or not that's the most efficient approach, though, I don't know. For the price though, it might not be bad to have either way!

Question 9

Can this be used on an RGB header? Let's say for an RGB Fan and an RGB strip. The mobo I have only has one RGB header.

For the fan, yes you can (I have one myself). As for the strip, I don't see why not considering it uses the same header.  All your MB header has to do is meet the power requirements for the strip, being LED, amps should not be an issue.

Question 10

my motherboard cpu fan header supports max of 1a or 12w of power if i use this and connect 2 cm jetflo fan to 1 header. will this burn my fan header?

Watts divided by volts = amps   So if fan uses .40 amps to run 1, then 2 would be .8 amps that is still under 1 amp.
