Yes. This motherboard will work with all coffee lake processors. It will also be capable of overclocking your 8600k as long as you have adequate cooling.

Is there a good amount of RGB lighting on this?

The right side of the board behind the 24-pin connector has RGB LEDs that can be controlled via software. It also has one RGB LED header at the bottom where you can plug in Aura-compatible RGB LED strips or devices.

Asus' website lists this as having thunderbolt 3.0, but Newegg does not. Does this board have that feature?

The motherboard has a Thunderbolt header or rather pins to connect a Thunderbolt card to. The Asus Thunderbolt add on card is sold separately and costs about $65,

Has anyone had any compatibility issues w/ the motherboard's software and Windows 10?

When I built a system around this board and installed Windows 10 version 1709 in December, all the ASUS software worked. After the MS Patch 2018-01 patch (to mitigate the Meltdown / Spectre vulnerability in Intel CPUs) to Win 10, AISuite3 stopped working. (The patch to Windows 8.1 caused AI Suite II to stop working on a five-year-old system, too). ASUS is aware of this issue. ASUS has a beta of a new version of AISuite3 on the ASUS ROG forum, which works with this board and Windows 10 version 1709.

is this board compatible with Core i7 6850k lga2001 and 16G of RAM??

Son wanted the i7 for christmas but it wasn't compatible with his mojo.  Rather than return the CPU we have decided to switch out the motherboard.  I am ignorant to all this greek and he is relatively new to builds.  All help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi, I would love to help. First, this is not the motherboard for you. This motherboard is meant for Coffeelake Intel processors that just came out this fall. The intel i7 6850k is broadwell e which is a little bit older.

Right now you can get the newer i7 for about $380. But my guess is this would also require a motherboard upgrade for you as all coffelake chips require a z370 motherboard. I would just be wary of that chip, not because it is a bad chip, but because it is a little older. So the question is, how much did you pay for the i7 6850k and what current motherboard does your son have? These will be the determining factors that will help you decide on the path forward. The best thing you can do is to go here is pcpartpicker and select start a system build. I would plug in the parts you currently have like motherboard and ram and graphics card and then it will hopefully guide you to the correct processor. Pcpartpicker will automatically make sure everything is compatible so that is really helpful. So keep in mind, when you plug in the motherboard you have, the i7 6850k and the i7-8700k will not be options because pcpartpicker will eliminate any choices that are not compatible. If you want to figure out a motherboard that is compatible for the i7 6850k, put that in as a CPU and then go looking for the motherboard. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Would this board be compatible with a i7-4790k Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 4.0 GHz LGA 1150 88W? it being a LGA-1150 socket and a 4th gen I'm not sure if it would be compatible. I'm currently looking to upgrade some components on my rig I'm not sure if upgrading the current processor would be worth it.

No this motherboard’s socket is LGA 1151 and requires an 8th-generation Coffee Lake CPU like the Core i7-8700K. Your 4790K won’t fit. 6th- and 7th-generation CPUs won’t work either, despite the same socket number.

There’s typically no point in changing your motherboard for the same CPU unless you need more ports for something. Your CPU is already one of the best for socket LGA 1150, but that platform is over 5 years old now, so an upgrade there would require both a CPU and motherboard.
