One of the best motherboards I have owned in the Intel line up.

Pros: This motherboard is amazing and is high quality build with some good weight into it. The following I like about this board. 1) Compatibility works with just about every cooler I installed and currently using a Dark Rock TF. 2) It fits on all the cases I used on it such as Cooler Master SL600M and 011-Dynamic Razer Edition. 3) Overclocking on this board is supper easy it even run 5.3Ghz on its own with decent voltages. 4) So many fan ports that will cover any extreme water cooling setup you put into it. 5) Display lcd is nice and can be modified plus. The VRM are solid cool for running on air or water cooled with 5.1 to 5.3Ghz on all cores. I know some of it depends on CPU lottery silicon but still every chip I have tested under Intel i9-9900K has hit 5.3Ghz easy. It all depends on your cooling setup.

Cons: Okay not for the cons since there is a little annoying things that you have to over come on this board aside from being EATX which for this kind of board is a giving if you don't have the correct size pc case to install it in. 1) Audio software for Sonic Studio 3 can be very annoying since sometimes it will not work correctly for example. It will launch but then close right away and I found going online to grab the correct MS Store link and installing those with the drivers provided at the ASUS forum will have the Sonic Studio 3 & Sonic Radar 3 working correctly. 2) ASUS AURA is not compatible with other RGB softare companies wish they gave us the option to sync or control it using Razer Synapse 3 or Corsair iCue RGB software. Come on ASUS please give us that option for an expensive board I expect a bit more flexibility. This is primary why I deducted one start from this board.

Overall Review: 1) I would recommend this product to anyone looking for build an amazing over kill system but if you just want a system that will not be pushed to the limits. I would save my money and go with a lower model of this series. You can't go wrong with ASUS motherboards of this series. 2) I would totally buy this again and I have owned the Formula edition which I enjoy a lot but this one here just look like an Air Cooling King of a board over the water cooling version which is the Formula. 3) I would change the way RGB options are so that I can easily control it from one master center software instead of running every brand RGB software to sync the system into my games or themes setup.

Will not fit into Cooler Master

Pros: None

Cons: The ASUS ROG Maximus XI Extreme will not fit into a Cooler Master
The Back-Panel Connector Unit is approx. 1/4 " too wide. I am so upset, both are rated at EATX. But no go, will not line up with mounting screws/standoffs. Yuck to both.

Easy setup. Easy overclock. Works as expected with no problems. Highly recommend!

Pros: -ASUS bios is the best. Very user friendly.
-Everything you should need and more for the best overclocking
-AI Overclocking is a neat feature if you want to let the board do all the work

Cons: -RGB is barely noticeable, could be a bit brighter

Overall Review: I swapped out a faulty Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme board for this board and haven't regretted it a second. The ASUS bios is much easier to use, overclocking is a breeze, and the included software is way ahead of the competition. I had no problem removing the screws or installing the m.2 drives. Paired with a 2080ti, 2 samsung m.2 drives and a 9900k. The Gigabyte board I had was causing my system to freeze, the m.2 screw would not come out and the bios was terrible to use. I have not had any problems with this board at all. After having both boards installed and tested on the same system, the ASUS Maximus XI Extreme is the one I would go with every time.

Order Lost in Space

Pros: None

Cons: Wasted time

Overall Review: Ordered the MAXIMUS XI EXTREME motherboard and two sticks of SAMSUNG 970 PRO M.2 2280 512GB PCIe on April 16th. I received a notification from PUROLATOR on April 17 advising the the above equipment had been delivered according to offered and selected shipping option (local Canada Post Station). I was initially overjoyed to find that they were delivered overnight. However, the story goes downhill from there! I went to the location on two occasions to try and obtain these items. I soon found myself speaking to a clerk who needed encouragement to look around the stock room where it was allegedly dropped off according to Purolator confirmation of delivery.

I contacted Purolator immediately after the discussion with the clerk and reported the purchased items missing.

On Thursday I got an email from Allison a "Tracing Specialist" at Purolator stating:

"I have received your case file regarding your shipment from New Egg. Unfortunately it will take Shopper’s a couple of days before they locate your package because unless it is a Canada Post package, it will not go to their post office. It will go to the store’s stock before they realize that it is isn’t their order. Please update Donna once they have located your package."

I replied asking Allison who would be responsible for these products if they where damaged. Further I asked how long they expected me to wait for this process to work itself out and advised further that these items would be reported stolen if not located an me contacted by Monday, April 22nd at noon.

Further, I contacted New Egg and forwarded emails outlining communication by myself and Purolator in support of a claim I initiated. I advised New Egg that I had no confidence in the functioning of sensitive computer components that have been sitting around a stock room as I had no idea how they were being treated and how they would function. I advised that I would be looking to exchange these items at their expense and without restocking fee as I no longer felt confident about their long term reliability. The total cost of this order: $1,389.87.

I will update as events unfold

First board killed my 9900K

Pros: Lots of features, still the best Bios and design. Gigabyte would be my second choice if this motherboard dies or kills my CPU yet again.

Cons: Board did not control CPU VCore voltages despite locking them at 1.3V. It ran 1.7V across my CPU and did not throttle whatsoever. My core temps hit a sustained 115C (I have a bistpower Monoblock) and sadly my 9900K was never the same afterwards. I called Asus and explained my troubleshooting steps, they agreed to replace the board and CPU with Newegg so there's that. My new board has been fine so far and works as intended. I had to use my Corsair AX1600i to limit the power afterwards since the motherboard would not. Be careful if you aren't experienced with overclocking because things don't always go as planned when hardware has flaws.

Not worth it.

Pros: Pros-It works. Not worth the money.

Cons: Cons: - The screws on the M2 Heatsink were too tight to remove. I can not take it off to install my M2 SSD. Come on ASUS, how come you make this kind of quality issue on your $800 MB? By supporting your product over 10 years, never thought I will get this issue on ASUS. Extremely disappointed.

Another review below me stated an issue with the heatsink. The issue is because they put locktite on the heatsink screw which is very small. Using the proper screwdriver to remove this screws is impossible with the locktite. I did manage to get one screw out and took a picture of it with locktite on it. If you plan on using the m.2 slots on this board below the heatsink...DO NOT GET THIS BOARD. Locktite on an extremely small screw that is attached to a heatsink with no moving parts is a very bad design choice. I have been a supporter of ASUS for a very long time and I will go with a different company for my next build.

Manufacturer Response:
Dear nathan c.

Thank you for your review and I certainly understand the inconvenience this may have caused, and please accept our apologies. ASUS integrates long-lasting, premium components, plus exclusive smart DIY designs across the board — ensuring the best gaming experiences. You must have a proper computer screwdriver set. Choose carefully which phillips head that will fit in the screw then firmly and slowly unscrew. However casually unscrewing it will strip it. If done careful and precise it comes off with great ease. MUST KNOW BEFORE BUYING

Pros: Great board. Has all the bells and whistles that one can want on a LGA 1151 socket.

Cons: Can't use all of those bells and whistles at the same time (at least playing with the bios setting and search all the forums, I have not found a way). I have not found a way to have both SLI and the Dimm.2 slot to work at the same time. I have to choose between one or the other.

Overall Review: If you dont need SLI and want all the NVME dives, but dont want a LGA 2066 set up, this is a great board. However, until someone tells me a way around my issue, I'm leaving this at 1 egg because all the research I did before buying this board did not tell me this would be an issue.

$600... Don't buy this thing.

Pros: You can flex on kids with all your money.

Cons: If you want to spend $600 on a motherboard then you probably want 2 NVMe SSDs in Raid 0 and SLI GPUs, which you won't have the bandwidth for on this platform. If you look at the board layout you can see that is exactly the people they made this board for. I suggest anyone looking at this board to seriously just consider going 2066, or even 1366. Don't buy this thing, you are limiting yourself to a chipset and socket that is extremely limited.
