Six years still going strong

Pros: I bought this board from newegg so long ago that even newegg doesn't have it archived in my purchases. I purchased a w3550 xeon to go with it and ran that OC'd to 4.0 ghz forever. The boards had a 920 in it but now theres a x5650 @ 3.7 daily. The x5650 will do 4.4 on this board rock solid theres probably more the board can do but i dont wanna push the chip. This board is SOLID its been moved to five diffrent cases increased ram from 6 gb tri channel to 24gb tri channel. Ive ran dual 7970's OC 1200/1600 on it. The best part EVERYTHING still works. No dead sata ports no dead ram slots no dead usb ports its still pristine if not a little dusty.

Cons: Not a con: The x58 chipset didnt support trim on RAID natively now mine does after a little bios updating on the chipset. Im not even sure it was possible till the modding community got a hold of the bios to make changes.

Its an old board, but if you didnt get a lemon and took care of it it would last years.

Overall Review: I had to post my results and 6 years of rock solid performance after seeing the 3 star rating.
I believe the company motto at the time of this board was Rock solid Heart Touching though that might of been when i bought my first asus board a p5q-e (qx9650 4.0 still running). Rock solid i will attest to, heart touching dunno but it sure makes me happy every time that sucker boots with new overclock settings. I might retire this board after ive eeked out all i can from the x58 chipset but where im at there is still a bit of performance to gain out of this board. Im gonna buy another ASUS board. Ive bought two of them and they are still going strong. In the PC world searching for incredible? nah found the guys that sell it. Peace.

Intermittent Issues

Pros: Board color scheme is nice. Built in audio quality is pretty good.

Cons: Not sure if it's just the luck of the draw, but my unit began to have issues right after the 3 year warranty ran out. Bought the motherboard in 2010 and began to have issues last year (2014). The motherboard tends to be stubborn when you try to boot it up after a shutdown. Sometimes it'll start up right away, no issues. Other times it will start to flash on/off all the lights/fans on the computer and make a high-pitched noise when doing so - though this hasn't seemed to damage any of my parts yet. The flashes will be slow at first, though end up getting faster near the end at which point you can pull the power for a sec and if you time it right, the computer will boot. Sounds like it might be a problem with one of the capacitors going bad though upon visual inspection none of them have popped. I'm currently having to live through this issue (as I don't want to spend money on another motherboard) and have found that removing the power for around an hour, then giving it power and waiting about half an hour will let you power it on. Also, while it sounds like a power supply issue, my PSU works fine with other motherboards and powers them on fine. Not sure if I'll be buying another ASUS motherboard after this issue.

Pros: this mobo rocks, it has beaucoup connectors and great features. it is a matx so it allows for someone to build a smaller system that still can pack a punch.

Cons: the northbride is scalding hot. can not figure out why. without a fan directly over it it will shut the pc down.

Overall Review: this is a great mobo that allows of the builder to think outside the box. but the northbridge is super hot. you could fry an egg on it

Suprised at negative reviews

Pros: Configurable, stable, high quality, and decent overclocking tools.

Board seemed very high quality when I bought it and it still seems very high quality after three years.

Cons: Can't think of any. But out of sheer preference, it would be nice to add more voltage to the onboard fan controllers.

Overall Review: For people who are having issues with this board, it just appears to need more voltage. Out of the box, my board rebooted and was unstable--just like the reviews I read previously. However, in the BIOS, just select the "Gaming" Tuning Mode and this seems to adjust the necessary voltages automatically. For me, it's been running stable for 3+ years after this slight adjustment.

Also, if the memory isn't on the recommended/tested list from the manufacturer--then don't install it! Buy what's been tested and recommended!

And I have no affiliation with ASUS.

Dead All of them

Pros: Excellent when it worked for like 1 month from original purchase.

Cons: From day one all revisions of this motherboard has given me problems, nothing but PROBLEMS, they all broke down, first one sent back for a Advanced RMA, returned and Returned with a brand newboard, one problem with it, it has a CRP bug ( Asus CPU Parameter Recall) So i sent it Back ( and its considered a Second rma even though diffrent S/N) It returns to me and has still has the same problem, i Work with someone and they attempt another Advanced RMA on this 'special' case, i lost connection on the phone with the ONE Nice person that was trying to help me out,. i get on the phone with another and he leads me thru a whole thing but i managed to get the board Sent back, and well it returns to me, and Same problem.. nothing is done to it, i got no report back on what was fixed if anything was done to it, and nothing so in total RMA'd 4 times, i talk to another CSR and they said they can attempt to Rebuild the system with my exact specs so i sent them an email back.

Overall Review: Other notes to this, i thought it was my CPU at first, So i purchased a Brand new 1366 i7 920 and Borrowed my friends i990x Directly out of his machine. Well i lost out on a good chunk of money as a new i7 920 1366 ARE still expensive as heck even for a older tech. BOTH of those proccessors on the motherboard still give it the CPR but are recognized as that. But i cannot Save anything in bios or do any overclocking, i cannot use my XMP for my Ram so their running under spec etc. There's a way to trick the system but its NOT how it supposed to work, when ever i reboot i have to press f1 and then Esc to leave the bios and it lets me boot but Everything is Default even if i have profiles set to run better, any Overclocking tools that Asus provides does not work on it at all, it will not hold the parameters at all for the CPU or Ram, other things will hold like if its sata/raid/ide, but nothing to do with cpu and memory can be adjusted.

if Asus is Reading this well as Asus Technical Support Randall C. would be great to put these eggs back up to 5. Else i have to figure out some other way to get a working machine, bright side is i have 1 Extra brand spanking new 920 to perhaps rebuild a machine with a diffrent motherboard.

Manufacturer Response:
Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry to hear about the issue you had with the motherboard. ASUS CPR is automatically activiated when BIOS settings are set outside of the hardware's intended operating range. Please try to flash the BIOS to the latest BIOS version, load defaults, save and exit. Also, try to create new profiles after BIOS update instead of previous saved profiles. To continue support, please email me below with your RMA # so that we can look into your case in more detail. Thank you.

BSOD

Pros: It has all the newer bells and whistles. I thought the motherboard would be a good temporary upgrade to keep my system going. .

Cons: I get random crashes all day. For the price and size of the board I would not recomend it. The disk has tons of tools that can only be used in a 32bit system why would you run 32 bit with this socket set???

Overall Review: I wish I would have returned it after day one. Also if you ever have to replace a board do not down grade yourself. Replaced a bricked EVGA x58 classified with the above board.
