Will this boot directly from M.2 slot? Like can I just put Windows on an M.2 drive and it work well?

Yes. I installed my M.2, booted to Windows installer from a USB drive (lots of tutorials online for this process) and installed the OS onto the ssd.

Does this have built in WiFi?

no it does dot but it has two m.3 card slots...you can get a intel bluetooth/ac m.3 card for around 30 dollars...i currently use a external adapter because its got a more powerful range...but you sacrifice bluetooth capability...so eventually ill have to get that card

I see that all the memory speeds say "(O.C.)" behind them, what does that mean as far as selecting memory for this board? Will I be able to pick any of those speeds and simply install it and go? Or will i need to do something more? I am fairly new to overclocking so I apologize for the newb question... All the other boards I have looked at have at least one memory speed that doesn't say OC next to it.

Good question. First of all, disregard the "(O.C)" next to 2133 Mhz. This is an obvious typo, as 2133 Mhz is the baseline frequency for all DDR4. In other words: if you install DDR4 2133 Mhz memory in your motherboard, it will run at 2133 Mhz, no questions asked.

For memory rated above 2133 Mhz, you need to enable something called XMP, or Extreme Memory Profile. This is just a fancy term for memory overclocking, hence the "(O.C.)" listed next to higher memory speeds. However, unlike overclocking a CPU or a GPU, enabling XMP is very simple. Depending on the brand of memory you buy, the Maximus IX Hero may detect your memory's highest rated frequency at startup and automatically enable XMP - in which case, yes, you can simply install it and go. Otherwise, you just need to boot into the BIOS, search for the "Enable XMP" drop-down menu, and switch it from "Disabled" to "Enabled." Once you reset your system, your memory should run at its rated frequency. On a side note, don't forget to check your motherboard's Qualified Vendors List, or QVL, to see which memory modules have the best compatibility with your motherboard. Kinda a noob question.  I am interested in buying this mobo.  I plan on running 2 x EVGA 1070 FTW.  What size SLI bridge will i need to use/buy?

Is this motheboard compatible with G.skill Ripjaws V DDR4 3000?  Model F4-3000C15D-16GVGB.

I am using the ASUS Hero IX Z270 with a pair of Ripjaws V memory similar to what you are looking at. G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C14D-16GVK. It works very well with this motherboard. With the AI Overclock set to auto the memory defaults to 2133 with a higher voltage. When it is set to XMP the timings and voltage are set correctly. It has been running very stable for the last few weeks.

Does this have out of box compatibility with the i5-7600k Kaby Lake (I know it says it but I've had motherboards lack this in the past). And if it isn't compatible, does it support Asus BIOS flashing?
