775 Socket Shot 3/29/2011 5:09:54 AM

Pros: Great specs on paper, but debatable performance

Cons: I've had the board for almost 2 years and for some reason I've had to hit the power button repeatedly to get the computer to start. It would light up, spin the fan, and power down. Never could figure out the problem. Yesterday I took turned it on and it sat there, lights were on, fan full blast, no bios beeps. It did this repeatedly so I took it apart. In doing so I realized some thermal grease had gotten not only on my CPU but in the socket (I need to learn to better handle the stuff). In an attempt to clean the socket with some Arctic Silver I bent the CPU socket prongs. Mobo doesn't work anymore. Thankfully my Intel Quad Core didn’t get messed up (at least I don’t believe so).

Overall Review: I've had problems since day one with this motherboard. I can see why newegg no longer offers it. I would like to get it replaced because I can't find a motherboard with specs as good (at least on paper), but other places are selling it for outrageous prices. I don't recommend picking up this product regardless of its specs however. If anything I recommend everyone keep a bottle of arctic silver grease remover and polish around!

Great Board while it is working 3/11/2011 4:01:24 PM

Pros: - Great board for socket 775
- Supports DDR3 memory

Cons: Last for only 3 years

Overall Review: I bought this from Newegg in 2008, and it had been working fine until last week. I contacted XFX hoping they can repair the board for a cost less than a brand new one so I would not have to buy all new components. NO, they do not do out of warranty repair. Basically after 2 years, if anything happens to your board, you are out of luck.

One of the greatest 775 boards out there! 1/22/2011 7:49:28 PM

Pros: 1. Great stability
2. Great MOSFET and chipset cooling heatsinks
3. Comprehensive accessories (seriously, it is more than enough.)
4. Great look!! Much better looking than my ASUS Striker 2 Extreme!!

Cons: 1. Definitely need to do heavy research and time on fully extending this mobo's capability.

Overall Review: Many people can't eve boot up the mobo; it happened to me too. I had 4 x 1GB Kingston HyperX 2000MHz memory originally; it did not boot. After I took out 3GB and placed 1 x 1GB 2000MHz, it did not boot up. Then, I use my slowest DDR3 memory, OCZ 667MHz, it booted up!!! Then, I immediately go to the bio to quickly change the memory/FSB settings to Linked, Sync and raised the FSB to 400MHz. Everything seems OK until I started to watch online movies; after 2 to 3 hrs of watching movies, it will crash. Then, I raised all default voltages to 1 level higher; everything has been fine since.

Stability after OC is great! This board really wants you to OC it. Don't be afraid to raise any voltage level. During benching, I rarely faced blue screen; after each unsuccessful try, it will still boot up without problem.

However, I did spent over a week on researching advices from many forums. After hours of testing and researching, I would just sum up: the mobo loves to be OC'ed!!

Yeah, Baaaaby!! 1/14/2010 11:32:26 PM

Pros: Functions as it is supposed to...very well. Runs great at stock settings and overclocking is extremely easy. This is a great bargin for those like me who desire a boost in performance but, want or need to stay with their socket 775 hardware.

Cons: The 790i Ultra Mobo's are getting hard to come by nowadays...especially as inexpensive as this. I wanted to get EVGA's "For The Win" version of this board but, NewEgg no longer stocks either of them.

Great motherboard! 1/5/2010 9:15:26 PM

Pros: Very easy to overclock. The multipliers are very easy to set, and is very stable in Windows 7. I bought a zalman 9500 tunnel heat sink and was afraid the FSB heat sink and pipes wouldn't allow it to fit... but i stood corrected by the mobo itself. Amazing motherboard... an NVIDIA fan would love this. The monitoring and configuring software is pretty neat too. Also two Ethernet ports mean TEAMING!! WOOT WOOT!

Cons: 1 PCI Express 2.0 runs at x8 instead of x16... but you won't see a notable difference in SLI.

Overall Review: To people who say this board is unstable, i suggest you check yourselves for that, because it works great for me. Make sure you guys who do not know how to build computers to read the manual. Most bad reviews on a motherboard are because of the whole thing being installed incorrectly. Also, make sure you reformat your hard drive before running it... you'll need to reinstall your os or your gonna get a lot of errors. This is with any motherboard though. And if it shuts your pc down after a few seconds because of overheating... make sure your HEATSINK is down the whole way and secured with thermal compound on the cpu. I know those inferior intel ones are hard to get down, so just go out and buy one with a back x plate.

Still running smooth! 12/18/2009 1:09:04 PM

Pros: Had over a year and still running smooth. Even bent one of the capacitors trying to install a disc drive - just bent it back and it still worked great! Overclocking is a breeze, no problems so far (though admittedly not too many attempts). 3 PCI-E lanes, lots of SATA ports, 1600mhz FSB, who can complain!

Cons: I bought this when it first came out at about $300, it's "nice" to see it come down so far in price ;)

Overall Review: q6600 OC'd to 2.66 (had it at over 3.0 but didn't wanna keep it there), 1333mhz RAM (4gigs), twin 8800GT's in SLI. Nothing I can't play at max settings on 24" of 1920x1200 goodness.

Great motherboard XFX 790I ULTRA 12/16/2009 3:30:01 PM

Pros: DDR 3 for core 2 quad. Great price for such a loaded board
6 sata II ports for raid. A E sata port near the chipset for a optical high performance burner without using a raid port. Bios on this board is greatest it has voltage tweaks galore that makes it nice if you purchase memory that is out of Jdec spec and want it to work like 2ghz ddr3 ram
board seems very stable works well with windows 7 index score 7.6. A customer could build a nice quad core system with this board and it will be plenty fast for gaming for a long time to come. I am running 2 8800gts 512 in SLI and I get stable 60+ frames in crysis with such dated cards. on High settings 1680x1050 I will install 2 300 series cards when nvidia comes out with them. running 8 gigs of Gskill RipJaw pc16000 ram is very cool on this board.
If you want great performance and want to stay with Intel but do not want to pay the price for a loaded 1300+ socket board or the 1100+ This board and a good quad still works well

Cons: No Cons really the bios settings is vast and can be a little complicated if you are a beginner. I have owned Nvidia chipset boards for a long time and have been happy with them If anyone needs help or has a question about configuration my Email is icemanss45@yahoo.com

Overall Review: This is my 1st purchase experience with newegg and it was great. The board arrived with ram in very clean and new condition. I was a little bit worried that the Gskill Ripjaw memory might now work only said it was for new p55 chipset support and this board wasn't listed but worked well anyway. Windows 7 loaded and I didn't need to load one driver to make it see the raid or for the chipset.
having 5 fan headers + the cpu one for case fan monitoring and control is nice as well I can control the bios and fans video clock speed all from windows which is very cool.
