Shocked and awed 1/30/2010 2:25:14 PM

Pros: Best X58 bang for the buck, loaded with features, on a fresh install of Win XP pro everything was smooth as silk. Overclocking i7 920 to 3.8GHZ on air cooling was smooth as butter.

Cons: So far absolutely none.

Overall Review: This was on a new PC build:

i7 920 overclocked to 3.8GHZ on air cooling (Zalman9900)
Corsair Dominator 6 GB (3X2gb sticks) in triple channel
BFG GTX260 1GB card X 2 in SLI
PSU = Corsair HX850W
Win XP pro (Win7 ultimate will be in next week for me)
WD 1TB SATA Caviar Black

amazing board 12/31/2009 10:52:00 AM

Pros: lots of room for ram, stays cool, can handle i7 920 oc to 4.2ghz, has a great OC feature built in for the inexperienced Overclocker. great price

Cons: none

Overall Review: these boards are not as well known as others out there but they definitely holdup well. ASrock is made by the same people that make ASUS. it is their spin off product.

Good for the price 12/9/2009 2:34:02 PM

Pros: 1.- Supports 3-sli.
2.- Has some automated Overclocking settings.
3.- Can hold up to 12 GBs of ram.

Cons: 1.- Asrock = Bad support (sent them 2 mails from to different mails around 3 or 4 months ago, never got a reply).
2.- You will need to buy specific ram if you want the motherboard to be able to use more than 4 GB (read manual before buying).

Great except for a few things 12/6/2009 9:13:46 AM

Pros: Cheap quadfire board
3 PCI slots so I can use my sound card and other legacy PCI cards
Powered eSATA
Good placement of most ports except the front panel audio, but this doesn't affect me
Basically everything I expected

Cons: Not enough USB headers for my liking, and they are placed oddly. There are 7 (IIRC) back panel USB ports, but the headers are strange. There are 2 dual-port headers by the RAM, and then there is one single port header by the bottom of the board. I have a 4 port USB bracket, and I wanted to use it, but I would only be able to use 3 ports of it, so instead I just threw in a PCI USB card.
It also has issues with suspending and resuming, but you can fix that by changing a BIOS setting.

Overall Review: Not sure if this has to do with turbo boost or something, but this board lets me increase my i7 920's multiplier to 21, instead of locking it at 20.

Also, when I OC this, it doesn't recognize my RAID card, but the onboard RAID is fine except for one thing. If you have a RAID1 array, and you fail an OC, update the BIOS, etc, and you have to clear the CMOS, you HAVE to switch the SATA controller back to RAID mode, otherwise the system will boot up non-raid, and will de-sync the array. You then have to reboot, re-enable RAID, and then let the storage manager rebuild the array which takes several hours with 1TB drives.

Got this to replace a Phenom X4 system. Worth the buy. I am running XP x64 on here, and it is very fast.

Minor problems 11/14/2009 7:11:34 AM

Pros: I needed 3 PCI slots and 3 ePCI slots which this board has. It had LGA1366 for a i7 2.66 GHz quad 4 processor. Quick installation and setup. I was operating with WinXP SP3 in just a couple of hours. Overall, a very good installation experience.

Cons: The built in LAN failed after about one week. Of course the only way to fix it is to send it back to NewEgg at my expense and wait for the replacement. I would then have to put my old MB back in while I waited for the replacement. This was not a viable option. After discussing this with NewEgg, they sent me a Rosewill ePCI LAN card at no charge. This card wouldn't work either, and after discussing it with ASRock, they said they would see if they could make a BIOS update to get it to work. I never did hear back from them. I installed a 3Comm PCI LAN card and that worked fine.

Overall Review: NewEgg - 99% of what I order arrives in one shipping day - They bend over backwards to help you. Unbeatable for quickness and service, bar none.

ASRock - Answered original inquiry in less than a hour, very easy to communicate with.

Insalled Win 7 a week ago, Rosewill ePCI card works OK now. Retried built in LAN, had an intermittent failure after about 10 minutes, disabled it again.

Not enough SATA 3Gb/s ports for me, it only has 6. I just recently bought a ePCI card with 2 SATA ports from NewEgg, I now have 7 ports in operation.

It Works 11/10/2009 9:37:40 AM

Pros: It works and POST pretty fast. Good slot layout.

Cons: Fan control is useless, no way to monitor northbridge temperatures and due to the lack of sensors SpeedFan can not control fan speeds.

Poor Areca (and probably other brands) RAID card support, will not work in an orange slot where is belongs, I have to run the RAID card in the 2nd blue slot which puts the video card at x8 instead of x16.

Only one network connector.

CPU socket is located in a non-standard place, too close to the top of the board.

SATA connectors hit long cards (Areca 1231ML).

Overall Review: If you want a cheap no frills board this one may fit the bill. Aside from the RAID card issue, this board has worked flawlessly and POSTs way faster than those so called "overclocker" boards.

Great board 10/25/2009 12:24:28 PM

Pros: 4 double wide PCIe
LGA1366
Has legacy PCI slots
Okay for overclocking (at 3.6GHz right now)

Cons: Won't see all ram sometimes (see below)
Multiplier will drop if you increased it under load. I put the multiplier up to 21 and under high load it will drop to 20, even though the CPU is well within thermal specifications. Even after updating to the latest bios, disabling speedstep, and thermal throttling in the BIOS.

Won't recognize a promise RAID card when overclocked, but not sure if the board or the card is to blame. The onboard RAID works fine though, so it doesn't matter to me.

Overall Review: If the board doesn't see all your RAM, do this: reset the CMOS, power it on, enter the setup, then save and close the setup. Should see all the ram after it starts up again.
