Small, great when it works, but flaky

Pros: Using this board, you can build an absolute monster of a rig in a tiny footprint. You get the same amount of grunt in 1/3 the space, it's great.

Cons: Look, I don't even care about that weird Intel RAID nonsense. I'm running a single NVMe, a single SATA SSD, and a single SATA HDD. I'm trying to use this as a dev box, not as a gaming rig, so I've tried using a Quadro P600 and a FirePro W4100. I can't keep the box on for more than 48 hours without the OS freaking out and stopping, and when it does, I can't get it to reboot until I remove power for a few minutes. It's not a thermal problem as none of the components have exceeded 45C. It's not a power issue (though at first I thought it was, and changing the load line calibration setting from level 2 to level 1 seemed to help by reducing kernel panics/BSODs from 4 a day to 1 every 2 days). I've got the latest drivers. I've tried Ubuntu Bionic through Disco (and those three versions of Pop!_OS with the NVidia drivers pre-loaded), and Windows 10 1803 through 1903. System's connected to a UPS (two, actually -- the building UPS and the one under my desk), so it's getting 120V at 60 Hz.

Overall Review: If you need a mini-ITX board and 64GB of RAM for any reason, you'll have to accept that you're out of luck. Either you'll have to settle for something like an i9-9900K on a micro ATX Z390 board, or you'll have to splurge on one of those ridiculous Eurocom mobile workstations, as great as this board looks on paper, living with it daily is a pain.

One and the only X299 ITX MB!

Pros: - Tiny size.
- Triple M.2 slots. 2 of them using CPU PCIE lanes.
- VROC possible.
- One and the only X299 ITX MB!

Cons: - Limited choices for cooling system if you put this MB into an SFF case.
- The air flow for CPU is narrowed, because the 4 sides around CPU are blocked with memories and 2 vertical panels.
- The front vertical panel (SATA and Front USB) stands too high. The chassis can't close when the front panel cable plugged in.
- VROC is not stable, nearly no support.

Overall Review: Since the MB is the only ITX X299 in the world, you have to accept all the pros and cons.
The biggest problem is the VROC(Virtual Raid On CPU). The MB manual says it's ok for the 3rd party M.2 drives to building RAID0 without VROC key. But intel says that you can just use a very limited 3rd party M.2 drives. Unfortunately, I bought 3 ADATA SX8200 which is not fully supported. The words "not fully" mean that I can setup a VROC RAID0 using my non-supported 2 ADATA M.2 drives in a running windows 10, but it can't be recognized by BIOS. So it can't be used as a booting drive. And also the performance is downgraded when you use this RAID0 as data drive.

Another problem is the memory. It is SO-DIMM package. While there are deals of normal DIMM every day, SO-DIMM is always expensive than normal DIMM, and almost no deals.

------ Update 12/20/2018
I think I figured out why the VROC is "not fully" supported. It's because of the RSTe software running on windows and in UEFI firmware are in different version. 5.5.0.1367(latest) for windows and 5.5.0.1039 for UEFI firmware . The UEFI firmware one is outdated. Thus, VROC raid drive can not be recognized before windows booting up. I think this may be solved by next BIOS update embedding the latest RESTe UEFI driver.

A ton of features and power in a tiny package

Pros: -only ITX available on the x299 platform
-built-in wifi
-USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports
-three M.2 slots
-fantastic BIOS after updating to the newest
-more ram configuration settings than I have seen on the highest end overclocking x299 boards
-strong memory overclocking
-strong CPU overclocking (w/ proper cooling)
-4 dimm slots
-RGB header
-capable VRM (with the right cooling- more details in "other")
-BIOS reset button on rear I/O - and it doubles as a power button if preferred
-good placement of 24 pin connector and EPS connector

Cons: -poor VRM cooling
-only uses so-dimm memory
-internal USB header placement is not good- (this is my opinion- it might be perfectly fine for others)
-does not work with der8auer direct die kit + Bitspower monoblock
-wifi antenna is not magnetic

Overall Review: I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking to build a powerful small form factor system. With that being said, this is not for someone who isn't ready for a challenge, nor someone who is not open to liquid cooling. If you do not plan on getting the Bitspower monoblock and doing an open loop, you may as well be using a Xeon processor as your clock speeds will not maintain at all. The VRM is very capable of a nice overclock, but it needs the Bitspower block to achieve it. I was easily able to obtain 4.6GHz on the CPU as well as 3200MHz on the ram that was rated for 2800MHz.

This board is not compatible with the der8auer direct die kit and the Bitspower block at the same time. I have seen people use the direct die kit without the monoblock and have success, but when I tried using the two together, the block does not contact the die. It is also worth noting that after reinstalling the regular socket retention mechanism, and then installing the monoblock again, I was having pressure issues in the socket not allowing the computer to boot at all. I don't know if this was my own doing or a quirk or this board and that monoblock, but it is something to watch out for. I was finally able to install the block with enough pressure for good cooling while also not having the non-boot issues.

One last thing worth noting is that without the M.2 daughterboard slotted near the rear I/O, some of the USB ports on the back of the board do not function as their controller lies on that M.2 daughterboard. Some people have complained of USB not working at all, but this is likely because they thought they could remove the M.2 daughterboard since they were not planning on using it.

Great motherboard for mini-itx build, but expensive for what your getting

Pros: many standard features packed in a small form factor, can support 4 laptop dimms instead of 2 desktop dimms like other itx have, , everything works out of the box.

Cons: - expensive for a mini-itx. You can get full-sized boards with more on them for about the same price from the same company, and with better customer support
- no 10G connection for future proofing. This would have been a great feature since there's no room to expand on the board and for the price paid
- would have preferred the dual antenna their other boards come with instead of the square that connects with wires that it comes with. So it feels like a dinky dangly antenna that needs to be taped or propped up somewhere. not exactly elegant, especially for a mini-itx.
- supports RGB lighting, but there's no actual RGB lighting that comes with it
- no way to know there are bios/bootup errors.
- no M2 RAID support, only for SATA
- would have moved the attachable M2 drive onto the backside of the board with the other M2's so you have more room for cooling options
- would have tried to put the usb 3 header and sata connections lower on the board, if engineering allowed. Usually usb 3 connections from cases are thick and unflexible so putting this in a mini-itx case can become an issue. I have it in a fractal design node 232 and it pushes up against the case.

Overall Review: it's a good motherboard for creating a mini-itx build, but the price is a bit high for standard features you'd find on a full sized board for the same price...would have traded some of them for more future proof features to justify it. Maybe because it's the only LGA 2066 mini-itx board available at the moment.
ASRock brand has good products, customer support does it exist? Companies will generally respond in here, but outside not sure.

Love this MB!

Pros: -Great range of power for the cpu.
-lots of room for future parts as they become more cost effective
-It fits in a case I can take anywhere

Cons: -Initial purchase of parts to get working can cost a lot
-Really have to pay attention to cpu list that is compatible or you will end up buying the wrong ones and have to build a second pc because of it.

Overall Review: I received this MB on the day of it's release. I bought the case first then slowly bought the other parts as the price met my budget. So far I have no problems with it as long as you take the time to research when will work and what won't with it. I have a killer score on passmark and am really happy with it. Hopefully I can keep this little guy running strong for years and eventually water cool it.

False advertising on RAID

Pros: Doesn't matter, cons are a deal breaker.

Cons: Does not support RAID on the M.2 slots unless you have some sort of key which is not available. Now I have a machine with half the drive performance of the one I was replacing. Completely false advertising, very upsetting.

Manufacturer Response:
Dear James,

Thank you for purchase and review.
For the M.2 RAID, the M2_2 and M2_3 slots support VROC (Virtual RAID On CPU) which state on mainboard specification link below under Storage section.
Specification link: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X299E-ITXac/index.us.asp#Specification
In addition, the VROC required VROC key and Intel drives.
However, the M.2 RAID can be using as pass-thru with 2 x Intel M.2 drives for RAID0 which is not required VROC key.

Mighty Mini Board

Pros: - Rock solid, sturdy construction. Box / unit weighs a tad over 3lbs (1.4Kg)
- Supports Core-X processor (up to 18 cores if you can afford it and also use a solution to keep it cool)
- Supports Quad Channel (4) DDR-4 SODIMM memory. At the time of this post, I'm waiting for the 3800MHz DDR-4 kits release
- Front I/O board with SATA and USB board can be removed to provide better airflow
- Bootable M.2 slots for 2280 PCIe NVME drives
- Plenty of overclock features in BIOS of pretty much a full system board (overclock of CPU and RAM)
- Supposedly supports PCIe bitfurcation on the PCI x16 slot, but I have not independently verified this property.

Cons: Not a con, but rather a wish... Would've liked the M.2 slot found on the rear I/O panel to tie into the PCIe lanes rather than the Platform Controller Hub (PCH). This would've allowed all M.2 slots to do RAID-5 on the VROC side of things rather than what ships which is the two M.2 do RAID-0 (free) or RAID-1 (costly due to intel VROC insult to consumers).

Overall Review: This review for ASRock review rebate program.

- At $400 (at the time of this post), invest in the 3 yr warranty. The board cost just a bit less than my CPU, and I want to make sure it runs well past the standard warranty.

- Please do some research before purchasing this product, so you know what you're getting. This is an X299 platform for CoreX processors. There are some unknowns that I've uncovered that may help: Two of the M.2 slots are tied to the PCIe X4 lanes to the CPU. The other M.2 slot is tied to the Platform Controller Hub (PCH). This means you can only RAID the two M.2s (RAID-0 or RAID-1). The other M.2 and the SATA ports are tied to the PCH. There is also VROC limitation on the two M.2s, so RAID-1 will cost $100 (at the time of this post) for the intel VROC key.
