EVGA Z390 DARK SERIES MOTHERBOARD

Beware, the power of the DARK-side EVGA Z390 motherboards is now available! After setting the bar with the X299 DARK, EVGA went back to work to design the next generation of motherboards designed exclusively for the world's top overclockers...or those looking to become one of the world's top overclockers. No effort was spared to improve the power design, layout or features of the Z390 DARK.

X299
The Z390 DARK is the first motherboard to feature both the 24-pin power connector alongside both 8-pin CPU power connectors on the side of the board. Not only does the layout give this DARK motherboard a stunning look in contrast to the sea of Z390 motherboards lit up like rainbows. The layout also provides a very friendly design for cable-management enthusiasts.
X299
Memory
To create this innovative design, the CPU socket was turned 90-degrees counter-clockwise, which allows the memory to run parallel to the top of the chassis.
X299
VRM
The entire VRM design is cooled with a large, passive heatsink.
X299
Cooling
This design allows for chassis airflow to pass unimpeded over the top of the power connectors, across the CPU and memory and through the rear-panel heatsink.
A board this powerful does not arrive by accident. This motherboard was designed by taking the best of the X299 DARK, adding additional features for the ultra-enthusiast, and performing non-stop testing until overclocking world records tremble at the mere mention of the word "DARK".
X299
  1. 10-LAYER PCB
A 10-layer high-speed E-ATX PCBA with its gold-plated shielded edge enhances stability for heavy loads and durability for today's extreme cooling hardware.
  2. HIGHLY-EFFICIENT 17-PHASE PWM
The Z390 DARK features a 17-phase Digital VRM (12 VCore, 1 VSA, 1 VCCIO, 2 VGT and 1 Phase Memory PWM) for the most stable power design to ensure that you're ready for Intel's Core i9 processors.
  3. 150% HIGHER GOLD CONTENT IN THE CPU SOCKET
A higher volume of precious metal (150% gold) has been used in the sockets to create lower contact resistance, resulting in better power delivery.
  4. EXTERNAL BCLK / CLOCK GENERATORS
An external BCLK controller for fine-tuning CFL-S system performance, and an external clock generator for PCIe stability and performance.
  5. 8 SATA PORTS—6 FROM INTEL PCH/2 FROM ASMEDIA ASM1061
The Z390 DARK offers PCIe disable switches to quickly shut off PCIe slots to troubleshoot or restore used resources without the need to physically uninstall hardware.
  6. TRIPLE BIOS SELECT SWITCH
Switch between up to 3 different BIOS ROMs for overclocking, benching, 24/7 use or anything you can think of.
  7. SW SLOW MODE SWITCH
Changes the CPU Ratio to the minimum CPU ratio in real-time for stability purposes or to reduce heat/power usage between long benching sessions.
  8. PROBEIT CONNECTORS
Attach your digital multimeter to the included ProbeIT adapter and monitor all your voltages in real-time.
  9. PS/2 PORT
Despite the Z390 DARK's technical feats, it still features an old-school PS/2 keyboard or mouse port to support Legacy OS and reduce latency and resources for benching and gaming.
  10. CREATIVE CORE3D AUDIO
Creative 5.1 Channel Audio with output amplifiers—the industry standard for audio quality.
  11. EVGA NU AUDIO FOR FRONT PANEL AUDIO
EVGA NU Audio is available through the front-panel header to provide a solid boost of power and audio quality for stereo headphones or speakers.
  12. SAFEBOOT BUTTON
Pressing this button will restart the system and launch into the BIOS at safe settings, while keeping the same settings when you previously left the BIOS. Handy for those times when the board fails to POST, but you only need to make one or two changes to fix it!
To recognize the name of DARK is to know a motherboard that features a top-tier power design, a long list of features, all necessary input and output ports for a modern motherboard and an excessive number of sensors plus monitoring tools.

We would be remiss for failing to point out that the DARK comes fully equipped with useful LEDs and LCDs of all types, from monitoring-system and component status to displaying temperatures and voltages.

Additional must-have features include:

X299
USB BIOS FLASH WITHOUT A CPU

The dedicated internal USB port on the motherboard allows you to update your motherboard BIOS even if you don't have a CPU or cannot boot into the motherboard BIOS.
X299
POST INDICATOR

The multi-function POST indicator is fully configurable in BIOS and consists of LEDs that can be configured to show temperatures, voltages or cycle both in real-time.
X299
RIGHT-ANGLE HEADERS

The 24-pin power, two 8-pin CPU power, fan, Probe-It and USB 3.1 Gen1 headers have been hand-crafted to provide clean system assembly without any cable clutter.
X299
VISUAL GUIDE / BENCH TABLE

Visual Guide and Bench Table are included with each motherboard purchase. Every EVGA Z390 Dark is packed with a printed PCB that shows components, LEDs, PCIe lane breakdowns and other helpful information. More importantly, this PCB with the included standoffs doubles as an open-air testing or benching station, providing clearance for heaters, condensation isolation and storage devices.
X299
PCIe/DIMM Status LEDs

PCIe/DIMM status LEDs allow for easy system assembly and troubleshooting at a glance.

Good motherboard for overclocking, bad for streaming

Pros: great memory overclocks. yada yada
great everything

Cons: they don't update the drivers for this thing so the mic and usb webcam issues have only gotten worse.

Overall Review: Don't buy this for gaming unless you don't want to talk to people because it is more trouble than its worth to get it to work.

Beware wifi antenna connectors

Pros: - Nice looks
- Easy build
- So far stable without crashes

Cons: - Wifi antenna connections are very poorly built. Both broke upon attaching wifi antennas with gentle torque and no lateral motion. Manual has no instructions on how to remove and replace the m.2 wifi card. EVGA support implied that I was the problem and offered me no help whatsoever. Ended up using an ASUS AIC which is a total waste of a PCI slot.
- Needs another internal USB 3 header

Overall Review: - Given the flawed wifi card and the potential inability to remove and replace, it might be prudent to avoid this MB.

Might the best Z390 Motherboard out there, it is build like a tank and delivers incredible performance

Pros: - overclocking galore, using i9-9900K speed record was set with it, nearing almost 7 GHz
- BIOS is a work of art, everything got recognized without any problems NVMEs, high speed memories aka XMP... There are profiles for different settings
- i9-9900K boosts effortlessly to 4.8 GHz and barely it reaches 50 Celsius under load, idle it is at cool 34 Celsius.
- fan headers have upper limit of 24 watts, so you don't have to split your hairs trying to find a fan that would work
- lets you draw extra power for the CPU, and the PCI slots

Cons: - 32 GB Memory Limit

Overall Review: Sky is the limit with this board, and EVGA support 247 you get a tech in the middle of the night for any question, how can you beat that?

The best Mobo for the i9-9900k

Pros: Giant Heatsinks . Massive airflow passing through the Heatsinks . Low temps on full load ! I had the Phantom Z390 gaming 9 and returned it after 3 weeks having trouble with RGB software And led lights on my q-code screen would light up when Windows would open. Purchased an MSI Meg Ace and. The RGB lighting was week and too dim. Over clocking my i9-9900k was limited and sound dac is not the best . Returned the MSI Mobo and purchased the EVGA Dark Motherboard and I’m overclocked at 5.2Ghz and my temps are way lower than ever . 17 phases . No RGB headers bit can use RGB controllers that comes with any 2 pack to 5 pack RGB Fan kits . This is by far the best motherboard for the i9-9900k and in my opinion Asus Rog XI Extreme can’t come close to it not even the MSI Godlike and Aorus Extreme Period ! My search is over and I am content! Oh and the bios is great and easy to use and EVGA flash dive with bios is a plus .

Cons: You have to download PDF files if you want complete Manual for the motherboard . Only comes with a folded poster for installation instructions and item descriptions of motherboard.

Overall Review: Gigabyte = Bad bios. MSI Bad quality control and bad RGB Lighting. Asrock Gaming Phantom 9 = Bad q code led lights and bad RGB software and bad Audio software. Asus Rog Hero XI = Not enough Phases for an I9-9900k bit best in bios and Formula/Code and Exteme are more expensive than the New Asus Rog XI Apex and the Apex has better Phases and out performs all the other Asus Rog Z390 boards at a lesser price but Asus won’t launch this model to America because it’s going for $370 In Europe and Asia . EVGA is on top for temps / overclocking and user friendly bios period.

Super Motherboard!

Pros: The true king of the available platform on socket 1151v2. The board has a wide range of options for overclocking processors. The most powerful power system, consisting of 17 power phases. With the update of BIOS, overclocking profiles were registered.

Cons: None

No regrets.

Pros: -Able to get my 8700k to 5.2 core 4.9 cache @ 1.425v (my z370 taichi required 1.44v)
-Got my tridentz 2x8gb 3600 cl15 kit to 4400 cl17-18-18-32-2 @ 1.5v (albeit the IMC requires 1.35v vccsa, 1.25 vccio - hopefully my new 9900k allows for lower voltages and 4500)
-Overall really good board, in the same class as the maximus x & xi apex as far as memory overclocking from what I've seen
-evga clc 280 has no clearance issues with the motherboard.

Cons: -Only thing I would have wished for is a bios revision without the spectre/meltdown microcode updates as well as the option to disable hpet in the bios.

-Nu audio drivers for Windows 10 x64 are buggy and the interface is clunky.

-People in my voip calls reported being able to hear what was being played back on my pc (seems like crosstalk on the audio driver (nu). Could also be the define r6's shielding for the front audio.

Overall Review: -Had clearance issues for the bottom usb 2.0 connectors when installed in my define r6 case.
-Using my NH-D15 was a no-go as I would have to rotate it by 90 degrees.
-Looking to get my 9900k to 5.2 core 4.9 cache / 4500 cl17-18-18-32-2 which this motherboard can easily handle.
