Does my motherboard need a PCI express 3.0 for this card to work? Will it work with pci express 2.0?

Nope,  I just built a system with MSI motherboard only having a pcie 2.0 as an expansion a lot and it works just fine. While the card is 3.0 capable its not a necessity. Hope it helps :)

i was wondering if this is a good upgrade from a xfx readeon HD 5770 or if some1 could point me in the right direction?

I helped my roommate buy this card, and he is very, very happy with its performance.

The main question is if your motherboard has the PCIe 3.0 slot to support it. I would check that to make sure that the card would be usable on your system.

That being said, you can refer to this site to compare the benchmarks of the Radeon HD 7850 and other graphics cards to get a numerical comparison for cards.

There is a site called videocardbenchmark that has lists of gpu's. I'd post it, but newegg does not allow us to post links. Feel free to google it. There should be several sites like it and they can easily steer you towards a good price and level of graphics capability.

The Radeon HD 5770 has a base benchmark of 1,678.
The Radeon 7850 has a benchmark of 3,714.

Variations in the card's model can cause a variation in performance, which is not indicated in these benchmarks.

That benchmark is still quite useful for identifying both the power of the card, it's cost, and the overall ranking of your card. (The higher it is, the longer it will be before it becomes obsolete. This card is ranked 29th, so it should last a while).

If you want a powerful card that can run plenty of games on high to ultra-high settings, and will probably hold you over decently on graphics at mid settings for the next several years, this card will serve its purpose.

I love this card! over clocks to the max right out of the box and cool and stable. i have three of these, two of which i got from ebay and put them in crossfire and they run crysis 3 max settings @ 1080p great. i have a 650w power supply... powering many, many things... a 500w should work great.

Is it Crossfire capable?

The manufacturer states it is. I bought a second to crossfire but had to use it in another build. I use it for mild online gaming, streaming online in 1080 HD. Watched a movie in 1080 HD, and have not stressed the card to record video. I use the HDMI connection. I bought this card because it was at the time the best card for one power connection. I have a 450 watt power supply. Overall I recommend card but have not had chance to crossfire.

I have a 650 watt psu in my system, but I run 2 of these in crossfire as well as have a lot more going on inside my case and it handles it all quite well. You can do an internet search for computer power supply calculator. You should be able to find a page that you can input your systems specs into and it will help determine whats best for you. I would include a link but Newegg doesn't allow that. Hope that helps you out.

Guys,

I purchased this card and the graphic is really stunning on my 24 inch monitor. However, the fan noise is really loud! First, its normal spinning but after half hours or so its spinning fast and the fan noise is pretty loud.

I installed a Rosewill Green Series RG630-S12 630W power supply because I had 300 w power supply running before.

I tried enabling manaul fan control through AMD Catalyst to 50% but still I cant seem to get that noise lower.

Any recommendations?

I did similar, but the PS I purchased is the Corsair CX600.

I can't say I've have the same issues, in fact, quite the opposite, I am concerned the fans aren't running at all after hours of heavy game play.

I have left the fan control in Catalyst set to 'auto', though if I manually put it up to 70% or higher, I do hear the fans spinning.

Is there another card installed next to the R7850 on the side with the fans?  Just wondering if it is possible the noise is from the echo/resistance of a card in close proximity to the fans.   I have about 5 inches of open space on the side of the fans.

Yes this graphics card does support dual monitors, It has dual mini ports, one DVI port, and 1 HDMI port on it. It also has the connectors to go with it. One of the connectors is a mini to DVI adapter. It is a great graphics card.

How loud is the card when running a graphic heavy app / game?

I got mine last week and have been playing a texture modded Skyrim with the card overclocked to 1000/1300.  I have the card in a secondary PC housed in a ten year old Antec case with only one 120mm intake fan and one 120mm exhaust (so not the best ventilation).  It never has gone beyond 60C and I can't hear the card over the two case fans and the 140mm CPU fan.  Basically, its extremely cool and quiet with the fan on "auto".  The fans are noisy when adjusted manually above 60%, but that's the case with any GPU I've ever had.

Yes, the HDMI connection passes audio as well, you simply need to select the playback device from sound options after hooking it up as there is no option under the catalyst control panel settings.
