what is the warranty ?

I think it was 60 days from purchase, but Sapphire technology usually provides a two year warranty. They are a great company. This card needs airflow to cool properly, so if you use a stock case consider leaving the access door off. This card is said to overclock very good, but this will void the warranty and without proper cooling damage components near the card.

Do thermal pads rip off when replacing thermal paste?

Sometimes, But they are easy to stick back on.

FYI, it seemed like it had a brand new cooler installed, which is what I assume the refurbishing was. However, I was disappointed to get the R9 290 when the description stated it was "R9 290X TRI-X" version... Was incorrect, but good deal so I kept anyway :/

Crossfire compatible? I own one currently.

Course it is, no bridge needed either for 290 crossfire, you also don't even need x8/x8 on your PCI-e lanes, AMD lets you use crossfire with only x4 in the second lane as well. you could even potentially crossfire like a 390 with a 290.

But if you don't already have a 1000W PSU to give you plenty of head room, eh, you can easily get away with like a decent 750W for most gaming loads, but remember the 290 does use a fair bit of power at stock unless you undervolt.
