Very Pleased with Choice So Far

Pros: - easy install of ASUS Strix GTX 1050 Ti card into case
- the case light can be disabled by unplugging if desired
- lots of connections available, a reasonable docking station IMHO. Other EGPUs have only Thunderbolt.
- came with Thunderbolt cable (short, so you will need to put the box near your laptop/computer)
- the FAQ on the Powercolor site helps with initial setup of video drivers on your laptop and order of switching devices on
- delivery was prompt to my location, box is well cushioned (and quite big)

Cons: - case fans are a little noisy, but not obnoxious

Overall Review: - Only advise I can give is to do your homework about what laptops work with different EGPUs. I chose a Lenovo business laptop that works with all of the "big 5" EGPU boxes.
- The box does "switch on" or activate when plugged into your laptop, and powers up from laptop coming out of sleep mode.
- The box itself is not small - so consider it's size if you have a busy desk.

DOA?

Pros: Attractive

Cons: The Vega 64 Red Devil Newegg paired with it is an absolute nightmare to install. It takes a lot of finagling to get it to fit.
I power it on and nothing happens. I don't have my laptop with me so hopefully plugging the Thundebolt cable will make the magic happen.

Overall Review: I'll update the review... if this thing actually works.

Beware of GPU card size -- the description is wrong

Pros: It turns my ultrabook (HP Spectre x360) into a gaming machine. Charging power, eGPU functionality, USB hub, Ethernet, and an internal drive makes this a single-cable docking solution for me. I've only had it set up for a day but the electronic functionality seems to work great.

Cons: The case, on the other hand, has a major design flaw. Contrary to the product description, this eGPU box does *not* fit a 140mm-tall card because the case slopes at a 45-degree angle at the back. I had to remove the shrouds (which seem useless anyway) and also the chassis top, and physically bend the chassis out of the way to fit a new MSI card. I recommend a card no more than 130mm tall. Put another way, you only have about 20mm from the top of the metal GPU output bracket (where the screw holds the card in) to the slanted top of the Devil Box case, so if your card extends more than 20mm from the top of the bracket, it will not fit.

Also, the stock fans are way too loud. I unplugged them and I've got silent replacements on the way.

And the included TB3 cable is only 18" long, which means the box will be right next to you unless you buy a longer active TB3 cable. Those are around $60.

Overall Review: If you adjust your expectations as to what card will fit, and you're willing to replace the case fans, it looks like a good solution. It's just not an all-in solution: you'll have extra work to do. I'm just miffed because I had to mod the case before my GPU would fit, but now that it's in there, it works just fine.

Pain the in the tuckus to setup but worth it!!!

Pros: Solid device. Big big big! Look forward to see how long this will last me. I frequently get new laptops and now with more TB3 enabled laptops, eGPUs are now more relevant. Totally a niche product but fits my niche perfect!

Cons: A nightmare to setup. egpu.io is the source of your resolution. If you are wondering why I'm not leaving the link, it's because [I forgot it by now] if you are not going to make the effort to read the reviews and the hints given by the reviewers, then this box is not for you. Not being mean, just being real. :) I was well aware of what I was getting into before I started this adventure.

Overall Review: Professional by day. Gamer at night. Currently playing Overwatch with an Asus 970 Mini ultra hitting 40-60 FPS. PlayerUnknown's loaded up fine in Ultra but then sound cut out and video stopped. The game is in alpha so I'm not too concerned. System is a tbMacBook Pro 15" with a Radeon 950. That, coupled with the 970, caused a lot of problems in BootCamp for me (egpu.io bootcamp error 12 were some keywords I used). I few times I thought I was screwed but in the end this thing has exceeded my expectations.

Slapped in a SSD and loaded all my games on it. Everything played fine. Looked just as good as when the card was in my system. I'm sure there was a performance hit but with how I typically dumb down my game setting anyways for better performance, I did not have any issue. This is truly a single cable solution. A docking station on some juice! Approximate setup time: 2-3 hours from start to finish.

Plenty of issues, some can be overcome with effort

Pros: - Lots of USB-3 ports + Ethernet + SATA3 + 60W TB3 power means this is a single-cable dock for most TB3 ultrabooks
- Once working, very usable in games using modern day Gfx cards

Cons: - Firmware that ships with it needs updated (will not work with many TB3 machines)
- Fans are stupid loud (had to unplug the top one)
- The lights are too f'in bright (had to unplug them too)
- Half the case needs to be taken apart to install the card
- No screws included for 2.5" bay (proprietary)
- Price gouging... the price was ~$70 cheaper, and then all of sudden was raised up to $450?!

Overall Review: When I purchased this box a few weeks ago, it was the only one on the market that offered the features I wanted: External USB3 and USB-C ports, GigE, and an internal SATA3 port. And I do have it working with a Dell XPS 13 9350 (Skylake i7-6560U)... but not without issues. First off, the Devil Box did NOT work out of the box. Dell (like most manufactures) still hasn't officially enabled eGPU support on their TB3 ports. The TI83 chipset in the Devil Box will not allow it to be recognized without a firmware mod. PowerColor was not helpful in that regard - They told me I needed to install the AMD Crimson driver package to update the firmware. This I cannot do because I don't have an AMD CPU or GPU, so the software will not allow itself to be installed. Dell was also unhelpful in the TB3 firmware department - they seem to be abandoning the 9350 support already. Reddit to the rescue... I found a link to a bootleg firmware version for the Devil Box that allowed me to get this thing operational on the XPS 13 (forgetting the fact that Dell has crippled the TB3 port to half the PCIe lanes). I now have the GTX 1060 working, although the drivers cause it to crash on boot if you don't do it a specific way (external monitor OFF, allow to boot on internal display, then disable/enable the TB3 port, then enable the external display).

Overall I think this box will work for me, but I am not satisfied with the lack of support and disappointed at the price gouging. If I had done a little more research I would have picked up the Mantiz Venus which appears to have the same internals, looks better, and is a whole lot cheaper. Plus Mantiz seems to actually provide support.

If PowerColor puts in the effort to OFFICIALLY update the firmware I will likely raise this by an egg or two. Until then, I cannot recommend this box to anyone that isn't willing to tinker. A lot.

Lost 2 eggs for lack of common knowledge and fan noise. See bottom for fan replacement details.

Pros: - Easy install.
- Thumb screws on most of the unit.
- Accommodates basically all cards.
- Enough room for liquid cooling with some simple mods.
- More the enough power with 500W 80 Plus Gold rated PSU.

Works great. No software needed, just make sure your Thunderbolt 3 software is installed.

Cons: - It's BIG! like ITX case with full-size ATX PSU big.
- It's loud! The fans are the worst. 4-pin GPU connectors.
- No screws included for the proprietary 2.5" drive mount.
- Where's the SATA cable?

C'mon PowerColor, I just spent how much and you couldn't provide a simple SATA cable or extra screws for the drive mount?

The fans?!!! Are these the loudest you could find? They're not even standard 4/3-pin PWM. I HAVE to put this box within a foot of my system and listen to it. Where was R&D on this one?

Overall Review: This box is the most adaptable currently on the market and is still a good pick, BUT I recommend replacing the 120mm and 92mm 4-pin (GPU plug) fans. Since Thunderbolt 3 has a length restriction, you're gonna get tired of the small props trying to take off unless you invest ~$200 for Corning's fiber cable and relocate it. I feel as though PowerColor rushed this batch to the market and forgot some things along the way.

Replacing the fans, you'll like the following...
- Noctua NF-S12B redux-1200 PWM 120mm Fan
- Noctua NF-B9 redux-1600 PWM 92mm Fan
- 2x 3/4-Pin Fan Connector (Male) to 4-Pin GPU Mini Fan Connector (Female)
All items are available from Newegg and will cost you about $40. Well worth the money. Don't believe me, buy the unit and see for yourself. My review will be waiting here for your reference. You're welcome.

Beware

Pros: Solidly built, seems well made and is attractive

Cons: eGPU isn't recognized at all by my XPS 9560. Reached out to PowerColor and have not heard back from them at all. Newegg has these listed as refund for replacement only so I am stuck until/if Powercolor ever gets back to me. If you want an idea of how they are supporting these, go to powercolor.com and search for devil box or try to pick devil box in the support area.

Overall Review: I wouldnt recommend this product unless you know for sure your machine is going to work with it. I would actually at this point personally avoid power color all together. I don't think I have ever been disappointed with a purchase from Newegg, but I definitely am now.

Newegg acting like a scapler on an otherwise good product

Pros: Added capabilities over main competitor device, Razer Core.
- Works on more computers than the advertised Razer Blade Stealth or Intel NIC. Proven to function with late 2016 HP Spectre x360 (Kaby Lake) laptop. Plugs in and immediately recognized on HP with updated drivers. Load choosen video card drivers and functions well initially.
- Added capability for optional internal storage (laptop hard drive) over Razer Core.
- Added USB-C connection (rear) over Razer Core.
- Convenient front mounted USB-A 3.0 port.

Cons: Regarding Newegg:
- As the only US distributor, Newegg is using its position to charge a nearly 20% premium mark up on the Devil Box, up from Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $379 to $450.
- Return policy for this device is draconian, as it can only be returned for replacement. If the device doesn't work for you, you are out of luck.

Regarding the Devil Box:
- Poor design for video card installation. Multiple plates (side and top) require removal to access screws securing video card. Reinstalling screws to secure installed video card is very tricky with without magnetic tip screwdriver, then it's just annoying.
- Poor written instructions. Should show all screws required for removal of brackets. Should show location of internal SATA port to connect laptop hard drive. Should remind user to connect SATA ribbon cable before installing video card, as the connector is inaccessible once card is in.
- Poor milling. Difficult to get screws back in after removed. Front mounted USB-A port does not sit flush, leaving sharp edges exposed.
- Poor build. Thumb screws are installed beyond hand tight.
- Incomplete parts provided. No screws provided to secure optional laptop hard drive in sled. No small zip ties provided to secure wires after installing internal parts (video card, hard drive)
- Poor parts. Thunderbolt 3 cable feels poorly constructed and in my short time of use as should it does not always sit fully connect to laptop, thus the laptop does not recognize. Resolution to this problem is not consistent. Sometimes it is fixed with simple reseating of plug. Sometimes a computer restart is required.

Overall Review: I do not recommend buying the Powercolor Devil Box from Newegg. Unfortunately, this feels like a group of scalpers, using limited supply to charge unfair prices. I reached out to both Powercolor and to Newegg on the price discrepancy from MSRP, without response from either company. If Powercolor could push Newegg to sell at MSRP of $379 or find another retailer to sell at $379, the Devil Box could be a 4 to 5 star product and must buy.
