Will this device work with an antenna instead of cable? Thank you

This is exactly what's it's designed for: to pull TV signals off-the-air (OTA).  It won't be able to decode scrambled signals from cable providers. Note that this is a network device, i.e. it needs to be connected to your home wired/wi-fi router. After the proper connections are made, you can start watching OTA TV from any PC/laptop connected to your home network.  If you use Windows 7 or 8, the Windows Media Center can detect this device and use it for scheduled recording and playback of your favorite TV shows. The TV recordings will be higher-quality (1080i) than the scaled-down TV re-broadcasts from cable providers (720p).

Question 2

Can this be used to broadcast via the cable? Or does it only send out a signal from the ethernet? Not all my TVs are wired to the ethernet, but they all have cable hook ups. I can shut off the cable from the outside. I would like to broadcast a source throughout the house. I moved my modem so it's before the switch so I can still stream from the internet.

I don't think this is the product for you. This takes the full signal spectrum from an antenna and tunes to a single channel (per tuner) and converts it to a signal a computer can read (not a TV). This signal is output only via the wired Ethernet connection. You can then watch or record the signal to a computer. To watch it on a TV you need to connect a computer directly to the TV to play it back. You should also note I had trouble getting the program guide to work with anything but Windows Media Center so my new windows 8 computer would play things but I was unable to get a timer to work to set recordings so I went back to a windows 7 computer (which has WMC in all versions) to get it to work as a DVR.

is this mac compatible and if so what os version?

It is Mac compatible. There are Mac drivers for it, but I don't think there is Mac software available from the manufacturer. Look on their website for the Mac applications that work with this. I use this with Windows Media Center on a PC, and with InstaTV on my iPad and iPhone. (Be aware that you don't connect this to the computer, but to your wired network.)
