Watch broadcast TV on any device

Tablo lets you watch live and recorded television on any device in your home.
Tablo

Tablo redefines the remote control

One touch of the Tablo interface and you'll never settle for a traditional remote control again. It's visually rich and colorful, intuitively organized and easy to use.
Tablo

Experience better quality HD video that won't tie up your bandwidth

Cable operators compress their TV signals to conserve bandwidth in order to deliver multiple services (phone, TV and Internet) over a single connection. Over-the-Air (OTA) HDTV signals received through antennae are uncompressed, delivering an incredibly crisp HD picture far superior to what you've been getting from your cable provider.
Tablo

The ultimate cord cutting solution

Tablo delivers live, local HDTV broadcast programs you can't get through Over The Top (OTT) Internet content providers like Hulu and Netflix. Catch up on hometown news and sports and watch your favorite network shows live without having to wait until the next day AND without the pricey cable bill.
Tablo
How Tablo Works
Tablo is a next-generation DVR that plugs into an HDTV antenna to capture free, local HDTV broadcast programs including news and sports within the US and Canada. Exceeded Expectations

Pros: I've had the Tablo 2 channel dvr for a little over a month and very satisfied. Setup was fast, the app is clean and straight forward, and wifi access through various android devices is a nice plus.

I was not planning to use the subscription service and just set up my own recording schedule, but after using Tablo's service for the one month free offer, spending $49 for the year was an easy decision. Along with the Tablo I purchased a WD 1TB Elements ext. hard drive. For connection to my Sony 42" TV I'm using a Roku stick.

I would not hesitate to purchase this product again!

Cons: The unit runs a bit warm. At first I was a little concerned until I read various comments and explanations from Tablo that this is normal, and so this is not really a negative feature.

Other Thoughts: Update: just watched an NHL playoff game on a Sony 42" recorded at HD 1080 ... quality and smoothness of fast action was excellent!

Tablo SPVR2-01-NA Digital Video Recorder

Pros: Works well on all my devices wifi or wired. Good tuner about the same as my tv tuner. Nice program guide. Nice prime setup as well. No need for cable connections to tv's . Fire stick works very well. Pause Play rewind works

Cons: When clicking on tv station about a 10 second delay. Not bad though

Other Thoughts: I have not tested recording but will find out soon. I read a review that a amplified splitter from main antenna cable to Tablo and to tv tuner solves the problem of delays. I will be testing that soon also. Not sure about the subscription yet. I would recommend it to a friend

Awesome Product

Pros: Considering the complexity involved in creating such a product, it functions amazingly well. The Tablo tuners are better than any built in ATSC tuner I have ever used with any TV. Setup was a breeze with the android app; totally intuitive and simple. Once the Tablo is set up, you can easily access it with any device it supports. I was able to get it working with the ROKU and AppleTV apps, as well as a PC browser with no problems.
Honestly it works perfectly. Picture quality is great, and you can even record in 1080p @ 8Mbps if your network is robust enough. Recordings are easy to set up if you pay for the enhanced guide. Accessing the recordings is easy and the Roku and Apple TV remotes make it easy to pause, skip, etc.

Cons: Loading a live channel is slow, as is navigating the channel guide. $5/month for the full guide is a little high considering that for a few bucks more you can get a Netflix or Hulu subscription with access to thousands of titles. If you don't want to pay the $5 monthly fee, you get a scaled down guide that only goes 24 hours into the future.

Other Thoughts: With the exception of one of my TVs which uses a Roku which has a wireless connection, I have a fully wired network. Many of the problems people have are related to using a wireless network. It is really important to have the Tablo connected to your network using a gigabit wired connection.
Also, you obviously need to have a suitable TV antenna that can receive the channels you want. There are websites that can tell you how far you are away from the transmission towers.

Good product that could be better

Pros: Performs as advertised
Work well with Roku
1080 does look good on 55" with the default setting of 8Mbit
Streaming looks almost as good as live OTA; much better when compared to ESPN sports streaming for example

Cons: Setup was difficult and slow
Does not work with sabrent usb - sata drive
When trying to watch LIVE TV, warns about missing hard drive when the drive is asleep
Can't add single channel, all or none add
Cannot configure on Roku app
Does not work at 10Mbit but hard to find this, works fine with 1G switch
Expected better functionality at the price
Schedule guide is very slow to update on Roku
Price of schedule subscription is unrealistic for the value add
Don't see how to record a channel on a schedule from Roku
No adaptive streaming rate (this is a big missing feature) one setting for all
Difficult to skip commercials, 2 minute jump would be good

Other Thoughts: For the price, had to give it 2 eggs. Even at $100, I'd probably still give only 3 eggs. It might be better to someone who uses the device frequently. My use of TV is very limited to mostly the odd show.

Update: moved it to 1 egg. Error message Weak Signal can mean 2 things, weak OTA signal and hard drive full/ nearly full. Had to email support to get this answer.

Worst product I've ever purchased

Pros: Small box

Cons: Everything you might expect and that Tablo claims it does - it doesn't. Simply does not work correctly.

Other Thoughts: Sounds good, just doesn't work correctly. Pauses constantly on recordings and live TV. I use the AppleTV app and it is terrible. I purchased lifetime guide - guess what? - that's only 1 week into the future so you can't schedule recordings beyond that. Unbelievable. Don't buy it. I'm getting an RMA now to send it back.

Well thought of solution to cut the cable cord

Pros: A well thought DVR device that offers a clever solution to deliver OTA digital television signals to all my household smart devices (Roku included) via wireless router. I installed one last year and helped my son to installed one as well. There are two prerequisites for the device and they are: a good wireless router and a decent over the air television digital signal reception somewhere around the house. Tablo is one of best cord cutting devices out there.

Cons: no built-in storage.

Other Thoughts: I am in the process of helping my neighbors to cut the local cable services with the Tablo, Roku and Sling TV combos.

Just what I needed to FINALLY cut the cord

Pros: Easy setup
Great picture quality (I'd say slightly better than cable but not as good as OTA broadcast on my 65" screen.)
Intuitive/easy to use on Roku 3, scheduling DVR shows and finding what you want to record, and things you didn't know were out there is great.
FFWd function uses thumbnails so you can skip commercials in seconds.
If you want to pay for the guide its totally worth the little bit they charge for it.
You can watch your live TV or recordings anywhere you have fast internet.
Its not an all-in-one package....you provide your own networking, storage, and antenna to fit your needs.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Just buy it already.

Distributes TV recordings throughout home using wifi or ethernet.

Pros: Excellent picture quality.

Cons: Each live-TV channel change takes several seconds.

Other Thoughts: Here is the secret to how our large household became fully delighted with Tablo. First, we connected our attic antenna to a Channel Master 3418 8-Port TV Amplifier/Splitter. One of the ports was connected to the Tablo. We used our old cable wires to connect other ports to our TV's antenna coax inputs. For live-TV we use the TV tuners. Tablo is used only for OTA recordings. This conserves our wifi bandwidth and solves the problem of slow channel changes when flipping through live-TV.
