Am I correct in assuming that with this card you can have EITHER the four internal active or the two external, but not both?

Accepted Answer

The instruction manual for the card states that there are two jumpers on the board, each of which switches between one of the internal ports and one of the external ports.  You should be able to use 4 internal ports + 0 external ports, 3 internal ports + 1 external port, or 2 internal ports + 2 external ports.  I have only used internal ports, so I can't comment based on personal experience.

Can we get some measurements for this product?

The card I have is 4 1/2 inches long and 2 5/8 inches high, from the bast of the edge connector to the top of the card. The card is mounted on a standard bracket.

Since there are connectors on the back of the card, you will need more space there if your going to use them.

Question 3

Would this card support two 2tb mirrored arrays?  I'd like to have 2x4tb arrays.  Any recommended setups?

I'm not sure I understand your question.  Do you want 2x2TB drives mirrored, or do you want two RAID sets with a total 4TB usable capacity?  I suppose it doesn't matter because either configuration will work with this card.  You can connect up to four drives to this card. You could configure those drives into two RAID 1 sets which would look to your PC like two disk drives with a usable capacity of half the capacity of the connected drives.

I have a Dell desktop running Win 8.1 Pro with a motherboard that has an Intel H61 chipset, (a) which I understand does not support AHCI, and (b) is only SATA II compatible. I have recently purchased a 2.5” SSD and would like to make that SATA III compatible (and, if possible AHCI compatible as well). How may I achieve that? If I install this  PCI-Express 2.0 Controller Card (available on Newegg), into a PCI slot on my computer and then connect the SSD to this controller card (or to the motherboard, not sure what would plug into what), would it make my SSD, SATA III compatible? Also, would I need to upgrade the cable that connects the SSD to the motherboard/PCI controller card? Thanks.

If the host can see it, the ESX will.  You're cheaping out for a SATA card on a VMWare host,  spend a little more for a better card and you'll see noticably better performance.  The cheaper SATA cards use Marvell chipsets instead of more heavy-duty chipsets.
