I cannot confirm that it works with your crucial SSD but it does work with my kingston SSD just fine.  Good luck.   This product works as advertised for internal sata HD and copies them when needed.

Question 2

How would I go about cloning my notebook internal drive (boot disk about 450 GB win 8.1 upgraded) to my new SSD (1 TB, going to be new boot drive on same notebook)? OS has to be transferred not reinstalled. Any help (software, approach to take) will be greatly appreciated.

the super speed "Stand Alone" duplicator should do the trick for you.  If your master (original) is smaller than you copy, you can expand the copy to use the entire new drive.  I have done this with the  Super Speed duplicator.

My MacBook Pro said the smart status was failing, so I tried to clone the disc drive.  The target drive was a 320GB BEVT, and the source was a 250GB Seagate.  My MacBook Pro would occasionally freeze and I would have to hold in the power button until it shut down.   I put the drives in the BYTECC T-300D Sata III USB 3.0 Super Speed USB 3.0 to Dual Sata III Docking with stand alone duplicator at least 4 hours ago.  The 25% light lit up at least 2 1/2 to 3 hours ago.  I then heard a beep sometime after that, but nothing else lit up.  The 50% light has been blinking since then, but hasn't stayed steady yet.  Do you think the problem is my disk drive from my MacBook?  I'm borrowing this device to clone my drive to the 320 GB drive.  My MacBook is at least 4 years old, possibly 5-6 years.  I'm not very knowledgeable with computers, so any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!  I forgot to mention that I do have 2 complete 233 GB (roughly)back ups on an external hard drive using the time machine feature.  Thank you for your time!

Steve- I have this unit and from my experience it seems like your source drive is having a hard time being read. That says nothing about the state or current status of the drive's integrity just that the device is having a hard time reading it. If you have another computer that's available there are a couple options you can try. 1) try partitioning the destination drive to the same as the source and try again. (After running a disk utility check on the source) 2) Try making a backup and just restoring the backup to the destination drive rather than doing a copy.

IMHO the second would be your best best with less headaches. Use your time machine and let it do its thing.
