Question 1

i have had this unit for 3 months, moderate pc usage. and i had no issues till a week ago AFTER i powered down my pc i noticed the usb3 port had no power. than when i tried to turn it on it wouldnt turn on. i opened the case and all of a sudden it turned on. a week goes by without a single problem than it happens again. usb3 port no power after i properly shut the computer down and after sitting all night still wont turn on. right now i have the psu unplugged and we will see what happens when i get home.Anyone have any similar issues?

i have the mobo set to leave power to usb 3.0 sockets even after the computer is shutdown. the problem lies that after i do a power down it wont power back up at all. as well as then usb 3.0 not having power. even if a psu rail blows out it is still possible to have one power or the other. depending on how the mobo is wired. i really think this psu is not the problem unless it is a thermal breaker issue. there has been no popping sounds or bad smells.

Question 2

How do you control the fan speed?  Just installed this but the PSU fan is running at full speed and its louder than my other fans.  Its actually really loud in my quiet case. And yes it is the PSU fan (I unplugged all case fans and CPU fan to check).

I hate to say this...But when my PSU fan started making more noise then any of the others in my build..I found it was the bearings going out in the fan. I replaced the fan with an aftermarket one and it quieted down.

I was all excited, I was building my first computer, I was with a friend who had previously built many, I was feeling good needless to say, that was until I came down to the last plug and realized I didnt have enough 4 prong cables, a male 4 prong cable is what Im missing. Can anyone help? the MOBO I am using with this is ASRock 970 PRO3 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Question 4

I've had this PSU for a while now, and have had no problems until recently. The fan on this PSU isn't spinning, and I don't know if something is wrong here or not. The product says that the speed of the fan is dictated by the load, but it doesn't say that the fan will stop spinning all together. Is this normal?

its software and load dependent. I may not need to spin for business apps the software you can tel it to run all the time with min load.

Looking to upgrade my computer's power supply,(Compaq Presario SR1950nx), motherboard is ASUS A8N-LA, 939socket. Is this compatible?

I have no idea.  I bought mine through a deal of the day bundle.  I can tell you that it is quiet and it runs my new system with an 8 core AMD processor 3 fans, 3 hard drives and two dvdrw drives as well as 8 USB ports. I can't complain about it at all.
 
The motherboard power connector is 24 pin not a 20 pin with a 4 pin extra so check your motherboard as this is not backward compatible with 20 pin boards.
