No, you cannot boot Windows 10 from this and run it as an external drive to run the system.

Question 5

Support M.2 SATA?  No PCI Express. I have a crucial  M.2 MX500 SATA

Accepted Answer

No SATA! This is PCIex4.

Question 6

does it work with double sided SSD M2 NVME like ADATA SX8200 2TB?

Accepted Answer

The product supports M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs with form factors 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280. There is no specific mention of compatibility with double-sided SSDs.

Question 7

does this work with a GEN4 PCIE ssd?

Accepted Answer

I don't see anything that says that it won't. As I read, "M.2 connector are PCI Express 3.0 & newer" so I am pretty sure that it will work so long as you have a drive with the NVMe M or B+M connector configuration (reference the pictures on item page) and it does not have an extra heat sink attached to it. I have heard of others having Gen4s function on Gen3 slots but still getting limited to that through put.

Additional point, if you are planning to buy a crazy fast NVMe drive to go into this then that would be a waste as it will be limited to the throughput of the enclosure. A low grade Gen3 drive would still max out this enclosures speeds.

Question 8

can u use GEN 4 NVME ssds with this? with chipsets and processors that support GEN4 that is

Accepted Answer

The ASUS ROG STRIX Arion Aluminum Alloy M.2 NVMe SSD External Portable Enclosure supports M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs with 2230/2242/2260/2280 form factors, but it does not specify support for GEN 4 NVMe SSDs. It is likely optimized for USB 3.2 Gen 2 speeds, which may not fully utilize the capabilities of GEN 4 NVMe SSDs.
