Can I copy photos to this from my computer files?

Yes, by using software designed to record/write, or "burn" your files to the disc. Depending on the filesize of your photos, you could record hundreds or even thousands of photos to a DVD of this capacity (8.5GB). A smaller size DVD (4.7GB) may be a more economical option if you can't fill the larger size disc.

type of burner required?

Most optical drives, if not all, are now standard with burning capabilities. These DVD's have been around for some time and you will need to look at your optical drive to see what it can burn. All of the optical drives will list burning capabilities on them. DVD+-R, DVD +-R DL. If you are looking for a program to burn there are multiple programs that will do the job. I recommend DVDfab they are good for a Windows format i.e. Vista that doesn't have the burning program to make your own DVD with a workable menu. Good luck and happy burning!
