is this a 6 pin cable or 4 pin?

It has the adaptability for both. There is a 6 pin and an 8 pin. The 8 pin splits so it can plug into motherboards with the 4 pin. This is the 2nd one I have purchased and they have been great. I do a little work on the side repairing PCs and this is by far the best option due to the amount of connectors for the price. Only down side is the amount of cables that can be left over but nothing that a few zip ties can't fix.

Will this power supply work on a 20 pin connector motherboard?

Yes, as with most generic Power Supplies, it has a 20 pin with a slide on 4 separate pin connector if needed on a 24 pin motherboard.

You should not have any problem with your 20 pin motherboard. In my opinion, this is the best Power Supply around.

Sounds like it should do okay, 4 HD's may be pushing it, as I am running a similar system, with 2 HD's, and 12 USB ports, and 2 DVD.

If one or two HD's disappear from the computer list after boot up then it means you will need more power. This means that the HD's are not being recognized in the BIOS.

it this Power Supply compatable with a MSI 970A-G46 Mother Board?

Thomas, although this Power Supply should run this motherboard, it is not only the motherboard that demands the wattage amount of power needed. The video cards you select, determine the amount of power needed to run them. The motherboard you referenced has is designed run dual video cards, so you will have to research and read the demands of the video card or cards (if you intend to use 2) you select for the wattage needed to power the cards. Then if you decide to install RAID with multiple hard drives, that is even more demanding on power. Video Cards today go above 600 and 700 watts currently. This looks like a nice board to use for gaming, it has some very nice features. Good Luck!

My advice would be to buy the video cards you desire, then install the next level of wattage from what the video cards say is their minimum wattage required to support the video.

Question 5

Since this is a, ATX-based Power Supply, does this mean I can switch out a standard PSU from a Dell Optiplex 780 Mini-Tower for this?

Probably not. Dell's mini towers usualy have custom shaped power supplys. You should check the dimensions to make sure but if I am thinking of the right tower then no.
