This is a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter. So you can put your 2.5 drive (which is the standard size for a notebook/laptop) into a desktop that accommodates a 3.5 standard drive space. If you already have the 2.5 drive you don't need this.

Will this be suitable for an SSD to be mounted into a hard drive bay specifically in a Dell Vostro 260 Desktop? This desktop has rails that it needs to be attached to and then slid the rails slide into a slot, and is then fastened in place with a screw on the top.

Since I'm not familiar with your particular pc case I can't say for certain, but if your rails attach to most hard drives that are then slid into a slot then they should fit on the VANTEC mounting kit as well since the hole patterns and size matches that of a hard drive. I'm not sure what the screw on top does unless it secures the drive in place at which point there may not be anything that utilizes that screw. If that is the case you can find another means to secure the drive such as a cable tie (cheap and easy to find). Since there is no vibration or movement of the SSD, ie: no mechanical parts, then I wouldn't be too concerned about the screw if it doesn't work. But do find some means of at least tying it off should you need to move the computer at some time. You don't want the drive shuffling around while moving the computer for whatever reason. If you use this bracket in one of the screw-less cases. Will it fit in the 3.5" cradle that comes with the case and will the SATA and power connector of the SSD be lined up with those in the case as it would be for a normal 3.5" drive?

I think you are talking about a trayless disk unit. I used mine in a 3.5" slot inside the case and it worked fine. Check with the manufacturer of your trayless unit and see if they have one for the unit. If so, compare the specs to this unit. If they match, then it should work fine.
