Question 1

Is the Evercool logo on the front filter able to be removed? Has anyone done so before? How is it attached?

Accepted Answer

It comes off very easily as it is applied with just a bit of glue. Underneath is the same mesh as the front panel, but it is slightly indented in the rectangle shape of the emblem.

Question 2

Can the entire front portion (front grill and fan) be removed?  I need the bracket that holds the drives, but not the air filter portion.  In fact I may not even need the fan either.

Accepted Answer

The simple answer to your question is YES.
A more detailed answer to this is that there are 3 components to this unit.
1,  The plastic frame & filter, which pulls off.
2.  The metal frame for the fan & drive cage,
3.  The drive cage which sits inside the metal frame. 
It appears that the drive cage will unbolt from the metal frame.
Depending on your drive size, there are cheaper solutions.  One suggestion is from a company called Orico, sold here on Newegg.

Question 3

how well would this work if i didn't mount any drives in it and just use it to increase the airflow in my case?

Accepted Answer

I have 6 of these in a file server case (3 drives per cage) plus another 8 drives mounted in similar cages at the rear of the case.  Even with all the HDDs, the case is very cool, plenty of airflow in, around and out.

Without HDDs in the way, I'm sure it would offer great airflow - but it really depends on the rest of your case.  Too much air in - without as much or more air out - creates a positive pressure case.  On the flip side (reversing the fans) with more air being pulled out the pushed in creates a negatively pressured case.  
Either can be good depending on where the airflow is channeled/directed.  Ideally, you want air going over the CPU and GPU, memory and maybe SSDs (like newer NVMe)  But if you just have flow going in the front and out of the PSU, then the cooling capability of the airflow is wasted.

Otherwise, about this product, it does have an air filter that impedes airflow a bit, but it is removable and fully functions without.  They are also very quiet - not massive RPMs to create allot of noise.  Yet they can be replaced with different fans should you need to.

Question 4

Was wanting to use this with my Fractal Define R5 case, anyone have know if it will fit into the dual 5.25's on the R5?

It should fit in any two 5.25" bays. Just measure the depth of your case. Getting your hands behind this to plug/unplug drives can be tricky in smaller cases. I don't have an R5 though, hope this helps.

What modifications would allow this to hold 2 3.5 HDD and a single 2.5 SDD?

As Eric T mentioned, you could get an adapter to mount your SSD. Or if you want to live on the edge, use hook and loop (velcro) to mount the SSD where the bottom drive would go. Then mount the two 3.5" drives in the middle and top locations. Or, alternatively you could use velcro to mount the SSD anywhere in the case. Many people mount their SSDs in this way behind the motherboard tray, where one might route cables.

Question 6

Couldn't they have made the 2.5 bay attachment a square with mounting screw holes in the top so the drives stand vertically? Your could get at least 10 drives in that way. Even better, screw-less with slots in the mounting frame and locking latches at the back if the drive.

If all you are trying to accomplish is a critique of the manufacturing design, perhaps you should email the manufacturer. However, if you are interested in purchasing, as a customer and user of this device, I have no complaints. I have not had the opportunity to evaluate and competing products. My favorite feature is the 3x3.5"/4x2.5" interchangeable mounting brackets, although 4 SSDs might eliminate the efficacy of the 80mm fan, as they will produce little heat.

Question 7

how will this fit with the Phanteks p400S case? I have a 240 rad in the front, so it'd have to be placed under the shroud.

Is it an ATX case?  This is an ATX motherboard.

Can this product support 4 x 2.5 SSD of 15mm height?

It wouldn't fit them properly. 15mm SSD casings would fit into more like a 3.5" drive does. It would only properly fit 3 SSDs at that size.
