what come with the ssd?

This particular 512GB Samsung Pro Series SSD comes in a plastic laminated cardboard black box about the thickness of about 1.5 standard (non-slim) CD case.  The content consists of instruction manual, a CD with the Data Migration Software & Magician Software (optimization), and the SSD.  There is no desktop kit (3.5" - 2.5" mounting bracket) or the USB-to-SSD cable that come with the desktop kit.  This SSD utilize the SATAIII (6Gb/s) port on the motherboard to take advantage of the possible maximum speed.

Does Samsung offers an application that clones an existing hard drive and moves all the content to a new drive? I know Intel has it, what about Samsung?

128GB of usable capacity? Is this a typo?

It is safe to assume this is a typo. Or a copy and paste error, really. The same description is obviously used for all drives of varying sizes.

I should think the product name and specifications are definitive. Certainly, you can return the product if you order a 512 GB drive and receive a 128 GB drive.

Does the Samsung 840 Pro or EVO 500 GB come transfer software that will copy my entire Gateway NV55S current hard drive bit by bit, everything including window system, and transfer it to the new samsung 840 Pro or Evo 500 GB?

Can this drive be installed into any computer that has an SSD as a standard component?  Is it a standard size and has standard fittings?

Accepted Answer

This is a 2.5" drive - so unless you have an apple, it will work.  Apple only supports two kinds of SSDs - ones designed by Apple and one other SSD brand marketed by "Other World Computing".

If you have a mounting plate for 2.5" drives in your pc, it fits just fine - standard holes.  If not, velcro works to stick it somewhere in your case.  For laptops, make sure you have a Sata connector inside - if you only have mSata then you will need some conversion hardware and it might not fit or line up very well.

Is this drive compatible with Mac Mini 2012 i5? I would like to replace the stock HDD with an SSD and Samsung appears to have the best ones out there.

Yes.  I have installed an 840 Pro 128GB in a 2012 Mac Mini and it works perfectly.  There is room in the Mac Mini for two 9.5mm high hard drives, so you have that option.  I also downloaded trim enabler for Mac because it is not enabled by default.

What USB to sata cable do I need to clone my drive?

I normally use the Apricorn USB to sata cable that came with one of my Crucial SSD  purchases. I started to use it just the other day to copy to my SAMSUNG 840 Pro and it was working. However, it was reporting that it was going to take almost 8 hours, so I stopped and installed the drive on an internal sata connection. Copy then took only 15 minutes.

I have used the Apricorn cable for copying my laptop HD to a Crucial SSD. Took over four hours but was successful.

Will this SSD work in a Dell Studio 1749 laptop?

Works in our Dell laptops (don't know which models). It is thinner (7mm vs 9mm), but the screws that hold it in are on the side that is flush so it is held tightly.
