Yes. I use it extensively with USB 2 ports.  It's not as fast as when plugged into USB 3 but still satisfactory.

I bought this to connect to a mac mini, but it does not work.  Any ideas on how to connect to a mac?

I have 2 drives and hook to several Macs without any problems.  Maybe try using Disk Utility to format it for Mac (if it doesn't show up in the list of drives, you may need to ensure connecting cable is good or try a different USB port).

I purchased this product, and "corrupted" and "unreadable" files are becoming the norm.  This is a big problem, because I am using this drive for work.  If anyone can explain to me WHY the files are becoming "corrupted" and/or "unreadable" I would greatly appreciate it.

For example, I have read that this might be caused because I fail to "Safely Remove Hardware."  Are there are things that could be causing this malfunction?

If you have the driver set to performance mode (write back) and you simply disconnect the drive without closing the device (using "safely remove hardware") then yes, you run the risk of file corruption.  To avoid this, either always use the "Safely remove hardware" option, or configure the driver to allow quick disconnect.  If you change the performance mode, you'll have to reboot.

To change the mode, go to Properties of the drive, then hardware tab, then properties button on the hardware tab, then change settings button.  Read the descriptions and choose the options that best fit your needs.
