If you are putting this M.2 in a HP laptop; would you want to get one with or without the heatshield?

Most probably without the heatsink , not sure what model you have , if they already have a heatsink built into it cradle , but i don't think the heat sink with ships with this will fit . you might want to take some measurements with a caliper

Will this work on motherboards with drive heatsink or should I get the one without a heatsink?

I would recommend getting one without a heatsink attached if your motherboard comes with one. It was a bit of a hassle to mount this one with the same screw that came with the motherboard for me. I bought two of these, and one of them was slightly misaligned with the bottom heatsink so I had to file down the metal a bit to get the screw to align properly. This heatsink is also quite securely glued to the drive, so I didn't feel comfortable peeling it off and using the heatsink that came with my motherboard.

What are you asking here? This is an internal SSD with a heatsink on, designed to use internally.
