The drive is natively SATA-3 but backward compatible to SATA-1 (SATA 150) which appears to be the laptop interface.  Yes, it should work just fine. It will not perform to its highest level of capability but will be worlds faster than the SATA 150 5400 RPM drive that is standard with the laptop. It probably will need the 9.5 mm spacer that comes with it to fit in the drive bay.

no, no software with my purchase. If your computer savvy though, try Clonezilla. Works like a charm and is free. Just beware of copying a larger disk to this disk (512MB); that won't work....

Hello. Is this compatible with my 2011 27" iMac?

It should be as these drives are not formatted.  I installed it in a Windows 8.1 system (or had it installed) and it has been extremely reliable.  The tech support group, which I think is located in Idaho or Montana, were quick to help me and followed up to make sure all was well. That is a far cry from Samsung's inept tech support.  In fact, this unit replaced a Samsung Pro 850 SSD which lasted less than ten months.  Crucial is my supplier of choice now.

All SSD's are 2.5 inch in size (think laptop), so an adapter is necessary for desktop application. I like the NewerTechnology AdapataDrive. The price point can be reasonable if you shop around.

not real sure, but has been my experience that an ssd does not like being cooped-up in tight places where it my not be able to cool off well..such as usb hard drive enclosure. it may or may not over heat in a notebbok enviroment and die.
this also was with earlier  drives about 18 months ago. they may have improved..........my money......DON`T GO THAT ROUTE, UNLESS YOU CAN GUARNTEE YOURSELF SUFFICIENT COOLING.

The SATA controller will, most likely, recognize the disk.  However, if it's a SATA II controller and not SATA III, you won't get the full performance potential of the SSD.  A SATA III drive on a SATA II port will perform at SATA II speeds.
