Question 1

I tried this in my IBM Thinkpad. I was careful to match all the parameters of the original RAM but the system woud not even boot up.
I put the old RAM back in and the system came back on.
Any suggestions?

I have too little information about your laptop. There are 100s of ThinkPad models.

I would go to the Crucial website (Google "Crucial RAM") and run the system scanner tool. It's safe to use. If the scanner says anything but "PC2100" or "DDR266" for the type of RAM, the RAM you are asking a question about is not compatible with your laptop.

As for max RAM, "DDR" RAM is 1GB max per module, "DDR2" RAM is 2GB max per module, and "DDR3" RAM is (I think) 8GB max per module. Using this info, multiply the GB with the number of slots the scanner detected and there you will get the maximum amount of RAM your laptop will support.

32-bit OSs can only support 4GB max and even fewer GBs because of system reserved of that 4GB max. 64-bit OSs is nothing to worry about. The GB limit is way higher, like 100GB+ theoretically higher, although the system reserve thing will still happen.

Will this work in my Fujitsu Notebook C2220 laptop for a memory upgrade?

I can't help you because I didn't use the memory . I still have the
memory because I upgraded with 2 GB DDR 266. If you are
going up from 256 DDR 266 and your board is rated 2GB they should work. If Newegg would like the memory back, have then email me and I'll send them.  Still in the box not open.

Assuming you gave me the correct information, according to this website, this RAM is incompatible with your laptop because your laptop takes PC2700 and this RAM is PC2100. I would recommend buying two of these instead:

Newegg #N82E16820231141 (put this number in the search box of Newegg).

Remove all old RAM from your laptop and put these newer G.SKILL RAM modules in your laptop.
