I recently purchased a Dell OptiPlex 3010MT and would like to bump the memory to 8GB.

NewEgg's memory finder recommended ... "Dell 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) System Specific Memory Model SNPVT8FPC/4G" ... but I purchased this Patriot Viper on a "Shell Shocker" deal for less, based on its having the same specs (DDR3, 1600 PC3 12800, etc.).

However, it's only been verified to run on a Core i6 or i7 machine.   The Optiplex is a Core i5.

My question is:   Will this work in conjunction with what I have or even as a "stand alone", should it come to that, in the Optiplex?

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

I would check your PC specifications for the type of memory this PC can utilize.  If you purchase memory with the same specifications it should work just fine or if you purchase faster memory, then the system memory speed will equal the slowest memory installed in the system.  -- You cannot put DDR3 memory into a DDR2 system nor vice-versa.  Most motherboard manufacturers list a modem compatibility list for a particular motherboard -- this is not a list of all memory that will work in the system but only the memory that has been verified to work by the manufacturer.

I have a gigabyte GA-EP43T-S3L (rev. 1.4) mobo and a q9400. Does anyone know if this memory will work with my set up?

Yes. This is DDR3 1600 memory. I checked the Gigabyte website - you have 4 memory slots that can hold 4 gb per slot.

I really recommend purchasing 2 modules at a time. ie.  2 x 2048 or 2 x 4096, etc. It saves over loading a single chip.
