Is this memory compatible with a 27" iMac - Late 2009 model? Also, can I simply add this to the 4GB (2x2GB) already installed for a total of 12GB?

It's OK, but 12GB, might be a bit off. Check your iMac for your PC3 speed, but should be fine.You could if you have four slots available, but I highly doubt it unless you bought a high end Late 2009 model; look for your model number please.
