Since DDR3 memory is much cheaper than DDR2, can I use this in a DDR2 800 MB slot? (backward compatible?)

No.  DDR2 and DDR3 will not fit in the same memory slot.  You must use correct DDR2 or DDR3.

I'm upgrading from a single G Skill F3-10600CL9D-4GBNT. How does the 4GBNS differ from the 4GBNT?

I just bought this memory but it wasn't compatible with my desktop computer (Gateway SX2800). Any idea why?

The current memory installed has this in the label:

Samsung 2GB 2Rx8 PC3 - 10600U - 09 - 10 - B0

It also states DIMM.

I'd would like to have it exchanged if I bought the wrong one.

Thanks guys! Craig A might be right, the only difference I see between the ones installed and this is the chips on both sides. I'm returning it and will try to find another.

Sorry for the delay in answering. Yes, this memory will work in your machine as it is indeed compatible. I double checked the specifications at HP's website as well and they match.

I've had this ram in my machine for 2 1/2 years so far and never had an issue.

I'm wondering how to determine the timing and Cas latency specs of RAM currently in my machine, so I can add some identical new RAM.  I currently have 4GB (2 x 2GB) of A-Data 240 pin 1333 PC3 10600.  And I want 2 more sticks of 2GB ea.  (2 x 2GB) of compatible RAM for a total of 8GB.   I don't know the timing or latency specs of the existing RAM, so what do I do?

Is this the correct product to add memory to my gateway desktop sx2803-us20p?  It currently has factory installed, 2 x 2gb memory chips (totally 4gb) and has two empty slots.

Physically the chips will fit. I cannot for sure answer on whether the motherboard or CPU will support 8gb of ram.

Most likely the mainboard and CPU will both support all of the RAM.

Get a program called CPU-Z to make sure that the timings, voltage and speed all line up perfectly to these sticks. After the install make sure that they are correct. Also ensure that you are using 64bit windows or you will be wasting your time with this upgrade as 32bit cannot use more than about 3gb.
