Question 1

Just ordered the bundled parts to build the Maximum PC March 2014 performance rig and this is the memory included. Is it worth the extra $ to upgrade to 8 sticks at 32mb from the specified 16mb?

It's entirely up to you. If you're planning on using it because you like to run an insane amount of applications at one time, then yes. I rarely go over 4 GB of RAM when i use my machine, however I do like having a lot of cushion to give my virtual machines when I test Linux OS's.

If you got the cash to spend, why not? Although truthfully, unless you run tons of VM's or are building a server, 32 GB of RAM is overkill.

Question 2

Can this RAM be used for a CPU with a 2011 socket? I know it says compatible with 1155, but I want to be sure before I attempt to RMA it. Thanks!

I am not yet familiar with the 2011 socket motherboards or CPUs. I have this RAM paired with an AsRock Z77 Extreme3 motherboard (1155) and it works beautifully.  Might I suggest Newegg's 'Memory Finder' utility? Search for your motherboard by manufacturer and check if this memory is contained within the search results. Try checking your motherboard manufacturer's website for your particular model's memory compatibility list.
   I believe you can always simply install this RAM in your motherboard and see if it works. If it's incompatible it won't function but there's little risk of damage to it or your other components. 
   Occasionally components just work anyway without being included in QVLs or compatibility databases. Good luck.

I can't attest to compatibility with the motherboard you mentioned. I'm incorporating this RAM with an AsRock Z77 Extreme 3. Might I suggest NewEgg's 'Memory Finder' tool? Mouse over 'Computer Hardware' from the home screen and it's the first option under 'Tools and Resources'. Navigate to the specific model of motherboard you are researching and the website will return a list of compatible memory and a flag of whether or not it's in stock.
