Question 1

For some odd reason i couldn't get this RAM to work with my Cyberpower gaming PC. Could you give me some pointers on what to look for for good gaming memory on an Asus mother board running windows 7? I currently got 4gigs in my system and I'm wanting to upgrade to 8 or 16. Any help?

Dear Maika,

For upgrading your ram, there are couple things to check:

1. Motherboard compatibility
    - First you need to make sure the motherboard actually support the frequency of the memory; for this case you are looking at 2400MHz. if the motherboard cannot support such high frequency, it will run as standard 1333MHz or 1600MHz.

- You also need to make sure both memory stick is working properly. you can run memtest86 to see if the memory sticks were faulty(please look up the info of how to do it). other way is to boot up with one stick at different slot at a time to see either the memory or the motherboard were faulty. if the problem is pin pointed, you will need to contact manufacture for replacement.

2. Windows 7 Home premium / Pro / Ultimate / 64-bit / 32-bit
    - if the system is Windows 7 32-bit, the system will only recognize the memory as 4GB even with 8GB or 16GB of RAM

- Please note that Windows Home Premium 64-bit can only support up to 16GB as maximum capacity

Question 2

I thought about getting this for my amd mobo for now and i'm gonna upgrade to an intel in the future, but i'm not sure if I will run into any compatibility issues or performance decrease by a very noticeable amount?

The best thing is to call the Mfg. and asked them.  They should know all about compatibility issues, if there are any.

Your MB may not be able to take full advantage of this SDRAM if it's an older MB.  However, if your MB is compatibility, with this SDRAM, it should revert back to a speed your MB will accept.

But, the best thing to do is call the MFG. They most likely can recommend which MB is most compatible with this SDRAM.

Some sites even have an online analyzer that will tell you the best memory for you particular MB.

Lastly, pull out one of your memory sticks and compare to this picture.  If the slots are not the same.... it won't work with your current MB.

Question 3

I have an Asus Z77-a motherboard. I've installed the RAM and used XMP to setup the RAM to the correct timings.  The machine will not boot once the timings are set to anything above 1600MHZ.  Anyone else ran into this issue?

Could be two things.

1. Insufficient dram voltage. You can increase this to 1.7v to see if it works.

2. Could be the internal memory controller of your processor cannot do 1600mhz (rare to non existant) you could compensate with some voltage to the imc but I do not know what chip you are using so I cannot advise.

Other options are to RMA for a better set or run it at 1333. That motherboard is not capable of anything that would benefit from a higher ram speed. If you had a maximus extreme or x99 maybe different story. But with one gpu slot 1333 is all you need or will ever notice. Good luck. To answer yes I have encountered sticks that will not run at rated voltage. You can safely run most ram up to 1.75v without worry. They have a lifetime warranty anyways.

Would two kits of this memory work on an ASRock Z77 Extreme 6 running an Intel i-7 3770k ivy bridge? I have more than enough voltage support, just getting conflicting messages from ASRock and Intel about the RAM support.

I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work.  You may have to manually set the clock speed in your bios to get the most out of them with that setup, though.

Question 6

Will work this ram work well with the MSI Z87-G45 DDR3 1333 LGA 1150 Gaming Board?

I currently have the Gigabyte G1.sniper z87 motherboard and this Ram has worked well. I do not overclock so if you are looking to do so I could not give you any advice on that either way. But as for gaming and other applications it has worked wonders. I see most of the gain from my ssd drive and video card as I upgraded a lot since my last computer. I hope this helps. I have two computers with this type of ram and I have no complaints about the ram from either computer.

Question 7

Can anyone confirm this working at 2133Mhz @ 11-11-11-30 timings @ 1.5 volts on a z77 board? That's what I currently (older g skill) have and would like to expand from 8 to 16GB. This price is much better than getting the identical sticks from 3 years ago.

I cannot confirm this as all sticks are different. I can say that I belong to several overclocking forums and routinely overclock myself and z77 boards and ddr3 have no issues up to 1.7v for ram. So even if they required 1.65v to do those timings, you could run all four sticks safely like that. The hype about damaging the imc with more than 1.5v has never happened, not a single case and many including myself are way over 1.5v with ram. My advice, if the price is good give it a go.

Question 8

I bought a pair of these for my Z97 rig about a year ago, and I heard that this model has since been updated. Would I run into any compatibility problems combining another set of the "updated" version with the previous version I have? The ones I bought stated that they were compatible with Z77 systems.

I have just bought  a set of these for a Z97 system (ASUS Z97-P) and it has been running fine.  I notice that the original packaging of the memory kit states that these are for 3rd generation Intel processors and Z77-based systems.  On the front of the package a sticker has been applied that reads "Compatible with Z97."  It appears that this design has been qualified with the newer Z97-based motherboards.

Question 9

Will this work fine with current generation Intel Z97 motherboards?  I'm planning to use this with an Asrock Z97 Extreme3, which says it supports DDR3 2400, but I know there's more memory compatibility than that...

Can anyone tell me if the memory modules in this set are Dual Rank or Single Rank?

I'm building an A10-7870k HTPC and I've read that Dual Ranked modules make a noticeable difference in performance (10-15%).
