Question 1

I'm curious why someone might choose this ram or the other Sniper model with the slightly slower timings (F3-1866C10D-16GSR)?  They are a few dollars cheaper, but I'd think the difference in performance between the two would be negligible.

I bought the higher performance model so I can run my memory with tight timings. In a practical sense, it doesn't make that much of a performance difference, but I like overclocking my system. I haven't been able to get the memory frequency that high (1664 MHz), but the timings are tight (8-9-8-24-34) with 20 GB of RAM (2 x 8GB + 2 x 2GB) on an MSI 890FXA-GD70 and FX-8350@4.4Ghz on air. I like G.Skill RAM and would buy again.

DO YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY SET THE SPEED OF THIS RAM OR WILL IT READ PROPERLY WITH AN FX8350 AND A 99FX MOTHERBOARD?

David M. is correct, all ram on AMD needs to be set, but it's very simple. AMP is the AMD version of XMP and should have a preset profile for the memory that you can select in the BIOS. If your BIOS has a DOCP setting ( ASUS boards only I think?) this will take XMP settings and translate them to optimal settings for AMD board also.

Will this fit my GIGABYTE GA-B85M-D3H(Intel B85, HDMI, 2xPCI-E, 6xSATA, 4xDDR3) Motherboard????

Your mobo is rated for DDR3 1600, so those 1866 sticks won't be used at their full potential but they will fit and will work.  But if you intend to overclock your front side bus and want RAM that's rated to go faster, that could be appropriate.  If you don't have that knowledge or intent, see if you can find 1600's and maybe save a few bucks.

I just know I'm going to feel pretty stupid when I get this answer,but to be honest I never gave it any thoug after I set the clock sped on the memory to 1866, My  ? question is when it says on these memory stick 8x2 and they say 16 gig on the top, does that mean it takes 2 sticks of this matched memory to equal 16 gig total, if so , at lest I can stop trying to the pumpkin into a coach ,and buy more memory later,but I really thought I bought 32 gig,however with the way the faster memory these days are done, I did well to get the right memory for the board, Thank you for any legitimate answer,and laughing  is allowed.

I'll try to answer your concerns the best I can.

1. Even though they're relatively new to the market, G.Skill, in my opinion, makes the best memory in the enthusiast, value, and SOHO markets, it's all I even consider anymore for all my builds.

2. The best and easiest way to set memory speed/timings on any decent modern board is to just select the X.M.P. profile, and all the correct voltages and timings are set automatically. Set it and forget it. X.M.P. was "developed" by Intel but most board makers have implemented the option in their AMD boards BIOS as well. In fact I used this particular memory in an AMD FM2 board with perfect results. I believe AMD now has their own version called A.M.P.

3. 16GB means that the total amount om memory in the kit is 16GB, even though the sticker saying 16GB is on each module. If in doubt about a particular module or kit, just Google the part number. These days, it's pretty important to buy memory as a kit if you want hassle-free and guaranteed 100% stability. You could combine kits and G.Skill has forums with members that are willing to help with this, but it can be tedious messing with all of the dozens of different timings is a ton of trouble. and 100% stability is still not guaranteed. If you're on the fence about how much memory to get, or think you might add more later, do yourself a favor and just go ahead and buy the kit with the larger amount up front.

Your motherboard vendor will have a list of certified memory modules which are compatible with your motherboard. Is this module is not listed, it's always a bit of a risk, but if the numbers and specs line-up perfectly with a listed memory module (check every letter and number) it should work.

I purchased a new board and cpu. this will be my first build. how do I determine what desktop memory suits my board and cpu? any help would be greatly appreciated.

The description tab for the motherboard you purchased at NewEgg will list the types of memory it supports.   These days pretty much either DDR3 240pin, or the DDR4 288pin.   It will also list a ton of different speeds it can support.  Here is where things get tricky.  I don't overclock, so I stick to the max stock supported speed for the CPU I am purchasing.  You can find that out at Intel or AMD processor websites.   Buying faster memory allows you to over clock if you wish - faster memory can always be clocked slower that its max rated speed.  Faster memory is usually more expensive.  Faster memory may also run hotter, you may wish to check the voltage the memory likes to run at (listed on the newegg description generally).  The lower the voltage the lower the power dissipation.  My memory choice is usually the lowest power for the desired speed.   As an aside, limit your memory to two sticks, not 4.  IMO putting in 8gig as two 4 gig sticks is better than four 2 gig sticks.  In my experience going from two memory slots filled to 4 results in reduced stability and higher memory temperatures.

No compatibility with the CPU as it is what I have. My motherboard is different. GA-Z87X-UD4H.
As for the motherboard, it appears that it will only run at 1600 unless of course you overclock it. You wont get the full 1866 by default. But these sticks should work otherwise.

Question 10

I am new to figuring out which memory goes to which cpu and motherboard.  This memory says it is compatible with LGA 1155.  I am looking at a combo for LGA 1150.

Is this memory compatible with the LGA1150?

The answer to your question is in no relation to the 1150 number. That number is the cpu socket type. The memory, the part you are asking about is compatable with 99% of current 1150 type motherboards today. I have this memory running in my 1155 motherboard, I also have it installed in another computer running a 1150 socket. So the answer to your question is yes, it will work with no problems, and it is great ram! I have 2 sets of it!
