Question 1

can i use this stick and another 4 gb ram stick of this exact same brand and they both be compatible?

This approach did not seem to work for me.  I recommend purchasing all four sticks simultaneously to avoid any issues.  I realize that this is a spendy proposition, but it is the only sure fire way to insure all four slots on your mother board are used, and the system bios recognize and accepts the configuration.  As it is right now I have only three of the four slots being used, and one slot although the exact same memory stick, from the dealer, doesn't work.  Can't say why, but I'm tired of sending it back and forth and paying for shipping.

Can single sticks or ram like this one be used in a dual channel kit setting? or is it doomed to a single channel?

Have a Gateway Dx4200-08 with AMD Phenom QuadCore @ 2.4gz Original ram is 4gb of DDR2 800.  Max 8gb.
Would like to replace with 2x4gb Ripjaws DDR3.
Will this work?  Anyone...?  Buellar?

The more the merrier. When a program is run it is loaded into memory from disk but then there's not enough space in memory so it is loaded back onto disk as the page file.  The hardware then must read the needed information from the hard drive. If you have sufficient memory the hardware can access the information much faster, thus increasing the speed of the response time.
However, the RAM on your motherboard is only part of the equation. You can have a high end CPU and 2 GB of RAM on the motherboard; if your Video card is not up to snuff, then you still in many and most cases experience an unsatisfactory response from your computer. The video card is like a "daughter (-board)" to the motherboard. It is dedicated to program's rendering the information on the screen. So a slower video card or a video card with very little RAM can bottle neck the information you are expecting to see on your monitor's screen.

Not a noticeable difference. Those sold as a pair have matching ram for those who just have to have the perfect system (if there is such a thing).

Would this ram work with an Amd Fm2+ 860k processer?

it's not the processor you have to worry about. it's the motherboard. the motherboard has to be able to work with the ram and the process. the ram will work with any processor that the proper motherboard supports. for ram you need to check the motherboards type (ddr2, ddr3, etc) the speed (1066, 1600, etc), and the max capacity(4GB, 8GB, 96GB, etc) the processor needs to fit the socket type of the motherboard and the front side bus speed.

Go to Neweggs Memory Finder and check the Memory that is reported as being compatible for your Motherboard. You can also check the MOBOs or Memory's website for their Tested compatibilities.

I currently have the Ripjaws triple channel kit. I have recently moved to a dual channel board. If I add this stick with the other three to have 2 full dual channels, will it work?

If all settings are identical (you can check SPD settings on your current memory by using CPU-z or similar tool) then there should not be any issue.

WHY is a single stick package feature rated compatable w/4th gen procs, And the same exact part not listed as compatable w/4th gen procs as a 2 stick package feature??

I believe that they must have not written in the compatibility for the 4'th gen procs for the 2 stick package. I say this because I am currently using both single sticks and the 2 stick package in my computer (it was cheaper when I bought it that way) and it is running smoothly and up to my standards. Why they didn't put it down, I have no clue, but I can guarantee that it will work.
