I purchased a Lenovo G505S with the A10 quadcore 2.5 ghz (3.5 turbo). That processor is 1866mhz compatible but is the motherboard and bios able to read/handle that speed?

I don't personally have this laptop, so I'll just give you this.

Also, when I check a compatibility list for your laptop, only 1600 is offered as guaranteed to work.

So my call would be NO. The motherboard seems to be the limiting factor according to Lenovo. If you knew the part number for the MOTHERBOARD, you might be able to see if it is in another laptop that does support 1866. If it is, then the BIOS would be your limiting factor. Your cpu is quite capable of using 1866, so that's not an issue. I'm inclined to believe that Lenovo cheaped out on the board to keep the laptop cost competitive. The majority of people just wouldn't care enough to upgrade, and if they did they would buy a more expensive laptop to begin with. It sucks, but that's the way a lot of businesses work. I recommend doing research before you spend money on hardware for just this sort of reason, to avoid future disappointment.

Lastly, even the best of us can be "gotten" once in a while. I originally settled on buying my wife an ASUS K55 series laptop that Be$t Buoy advertised on sale. Turns out that there was no way to get it; false advertising leading to the old "bait and switch" where we looked to see what else they had, the HP g7-2275dx had nearly identical specs, so we bought it for her. Later we found out that HP has the BIOS locked down from the factory, and that the standard Insyde option to enable the advanced menu doesn't work. HP's customer service, being less than useful, said that we should put the stock 4GB stick of 1600 back in and claimed that this sort of modification could void a warranty. RIIIIIGHT. So I told them that even though I knew they didn't care, they had just lost a customer for life. I won't buy so much as a thumb drive or a $5 mouse from them ever again. It happens.
