is this 4x8 or 2x16 because it says 4x8 on the top and 2x16 on the button?

i got 4x8 when I order. beaware this Ram is little taller than non-RGB ram..you might need to choose other one if your case is mid size and need to install top cooling radiation.

will the prices for ram go down any time soon?

There is no way of telling that, but electronics prices fluctuate daily so i would recommend bookmarking any page you are interested in or using the feature on our website called " price alert " which notifies you once a product reaches a certain price.

Is this AMD only or will this work on an X99 platform that accepts 16-18-18-36 timings?

It works perfectly on a X99 I built recently. It had a 6900k with MSI X99 Godlike and 32 GB of this Ram.
