Is the 510 used in desktop PC, or laptops?

Can be used in both. I installed it on my desktop PC. If your laptop has an M.2 PCIe slot, on it's motherboard, it'll work all the same.

My motherboard is provided with a heat sink and thermal pad for the m.2 slots. Should I use these for the Firecuda, and if yes, should I remove the sticker on the SSD before doing so?

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't use the heat sink and thermal pad. SSDs slow down when they begin to get too hot, so doing this may even improve your drive's performance and lifespan. And yes, remove the sticker if using a heat sink.
