Question 1

Will this work on a motherboard that has DDR3 1600/1333/1066 slots but advertised 2400(OC)?  Do I overclock the motherboard?  Through BIOS?

Yes, my motherboard supports 2400 but I have them down-clocked to 1866 for lower latency. When plugged in and turned on the motherboard should automatically adjust to the highest supported speed, which for you is at 1600. Although if you do overclock them to 2400 you will have to go to the bios and adjust the speed and voltage for them and test for stability. Many tutorials online and YouTube if wish to do so.

Question 2

Do the heatsinks come off? Or would it be practically breaking them to take them off?

I haven't personally tried to remove the heatsinks... They felt very sturdy on installation.  Though I haven't touched them since I installed them,  they seemed as if the heatsinks would not come off without a fight.

Question 3

I know it says it is compatible with intel z77 mobo's  but does anyone know if it also works on the Z87 series mobos (G1 Sniper M5 to be specific)?

I'm trying to use these memory sticks with the ASUS MAXIMUS IV EXTREME  LGA 1155 Rebublic of Gamers Intel P67 DDR3 2400 ATX Motherboard.

The computer is not booting. Is there something that I have to do? Or is it not compatible?

My son built this compy for me, so here is his answer to you:

I'm assuming you're using the following motherboard (regardless of whether or not it's refurbished, the specs are the same) from newegg site: ASUS_MAXIMUS_IV_EXTREME_LGA_1155-_-13-132-309-_-Product

If you look at the Specifications tab of the page, you'll see the following list under 'Memory Standard': "DDR3 2200(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1600/1333"

The DDR3 ram you've chosen specifies that it runs DDR3 2400: See Newegg product N82E16820313325

Unfortunately, this means that your RAM is not compatible with that motherboard.  If you wish to replace the ram (perhaps return it in exchange for another set of sticks), then make sure to stick with one of the DDR3 options listed above.

One word of note, though, is that if you wish to take advantage of the RAM speeds marked with '(O.C.)', then you will likely need to enable one of the alternate Memory Profiles in your BIOS.  If you need help doing that, I would suggest downloading the Manual from the Manufacturer's website.

Question 5

For current owners of these modules:

I have to squeeze my RAM into a Mini-ITX motherboard under a Thermalright AXP-140 heatsink.

How hot to the touch are the heatsinks during heavy use?

Knowing this will allow me to determine whether or not I can replace the heatsinks with something a little less freakishly tall.

Honestly, mine are barely warm to the touch after running intel memory test and various gaming functions. The XMP profile changes voltage to 1.65 volts and I found that anything less will result in a BSOD, but even at that voltage they seem to stay pretty cool. The heat sinks do stand up a little taller than everything else that I have used so in a mini-ITX build it will be a little tougher to get air flow around them so I assume they would run a little hotter than my ATX build. While the heatsinks are tall, they seem to really do a great job dissipating heat. Replacing them with something else may cause problems.

Because it was based of the i7 infrastructure, will this still work with AMD cpus?

Yes of course, lm tuning 32 gigs w/a 9590 CPU on an asrock extreme 9mobo and with all I had too do was on restart less delete go into  your  bios then set the ram to 2400mhz. However w/ any mobo you need to make sure the mobo accepts up to 2400 mgs.

Works great in the Asrock Z87 extreme 6 1150 board. Since ASUS and Asrock are sister companies, I'm sure you'll be fine. the change from socket 1155 to 1150 was for the video.

is this ram compatible with the intel z97 chipset?

Since the only Difference between the Z87 Chipset and the Z97 Chipset is added support for Mini Sata, they should work just fine.

Mine work great on an Asus  Z-87 Pro.  I have to think they would be fine on a Z-97 also, but I don't have personal experience with that platform yet.
