Does this HD come formatted to load my lap tops reload disks and operating system?

Dan,

This is drive does not come pre-formatted with OS partitions (most drives usually do not) But if you are re-installing your operating system with the factory disks, there will be steps to format the drive. If you are unsure how to this, Google your laptops make and model on how to create the partitions. Or call the laptops manufacture for assistance.  This drive is a great purchase and works perfectly. I had installed into a customers machine and did use her factory restore disks to install the Win 7 OS. This is a great deal for the money. I hope this helped.

Will this drive be suitable for a Mid 2009 Mac Book Pro?

Yes, it should be fine. Hard drives are mostly standard.  The only thing I would check is the maximum size hard drive you Mac can handle.  Just Google the model and year. Hope that helps.

I am replacing the hard drive in a Compaq 6530b and the current hard drive is sealed - will this bare drive work?

I purchased this drive in September 2013 and used it as a replacement in a Lenovo laptop. If I understand your question, I believe the photo may have caused the uncertainty. The photo shows the mechanism inside the drive. That mechanism is not visible in the drive as delivered, because it's sealed in a metal case.
