My son wants a "mechanical Keyboard"  is this a mechanical keyboard?

No it's not.  A mechanical keyboard has a tactile feedback, and will audibly click on each keystroke.  Think of an old 1980s terminal keyboard, those were mechanical.

does this work with windows 10? ...ive had the g11 for ages and years and the G's dont seem to respond anymore

I don't no sorry , I haven't down loaded windows 10 .  I'm still useing  7 on my old key borad
