does this keyboard have 12 function keys, as shown in the photos, or 8 as states in the description?

I suspect the description is referring to the 8 "special" function keys that control things like audio playback. Virtually all keyboards have 12 regular function keys (F1 to F12).

Question 2

Does this include the short Unifying Receiver shown in the picture?  It's not specifically stated as such in the package contents section.  Thanks!

Yes it does.  The short one is the only receiver.  The larger one is a standoff that you can use to extend the distance of the receiver from the computer should you have reception problems.  This is more or less used for applications such as where the receiver is on the back of a PC under a desk.  You don't have to use it.

This keyboard/mouse works well.

Will the Logitech MK270 wireless key boars and mouse work with windows 8 ?

I haven't tested it personally since most of our workstations are still running Windows 7, but I've never had a Logitec KB/Mouse failure on ANY system.

Can the keyboard be paired with a unifying receiver?

The model I received can NOT be paired with a unifying receiver, only the nano-receiver that came with the combo.  When I try to pair with the unifying receiver from another Logitech device (M570), the software tells me the device I'm trying to connect (the keyboard) is not compatible.

I can't see why it wouldn't, as long as you have one free USB port. The provided software was easy to install and should be generic to any version of Windows. It works flawlessly with my T61 ThinkPad.

Are you able to setup macros for the Function Keys or button combos like shift+2?

It's been awhile since I"ve done any spreadsheet programming, but most spreadsheets allow you to write scripts involving many functions, which are initiated either by a few key strokes or else by a call in the spreadsheet itself.

The actual  keyboard and mouse combination are no really relevant to the question you ask.

What is the length and width of the keyboard ? I want to be sure it will fit into my case with the computer.

It's a little over 17 inches wide, and about 6 inches deep. it's fairly slim.

how do you connect the mouse and keyboard?

You connect the wireless USB receiver to the computer via USB ports and it will automatically connect once the keyboard and mouse have batteries.

does this keyboard  have a indicator light to let you know if you are using lower case or Capital letters? If know can you recommend another wireless keyboard that does?

Yes it does, but it is rather small if that matters - it is in the upper right hand corner next to the on/off switch above the number pad. Good Luck!

Will this work with Windows 98??  I have a wireless set now (and yes, still using the old tower w/Win 98) but the keys are getting 'sticky'  I have a converter/adapter for the USB to PS/2 plug in...

32 bit windows driver needed and  your motherboard must have USB 2.0 port then you may have a bad problem.
