My keyboard LED lights are not turned on. Do is it broken or need to install drivers for it?

It depends on the software you are using. If it is windows based it should work by tapping scroll lock (either once or twice). If you are using a mac/linux based system you may have to download software and run script. For some reason scroll lock is not active on these platforms.

Building a computer for the first time. Will this work during the OS installation for Windows 8.1?

Yes, I have this connected to my windows 8.1 machine. It works fantastic! Especially the backlite keys.

Does the mouse plug into the keyboard or does it require its own usb port?

Unfortunately you need a second USB port for the mouse, wish it had one on the keyboard for it

Does this have an option to have the LED off on the mouse? or a very dim lit option for either?

The keyboard has a button to turn the LED on and off, but the mouse does not. The mouse  does have a button underneath the scroll wheel that has three settings for mouse sensitivity and the brightness of the  LED light on the button changes with which setting you put it on.

I am building a budget for a future gaming PC build. What is your personal experience with this keyboard and mouse setup?

The backlight default setting is off so you are endlessly pressing the scroll lock on the keyboard not worth paying 5 dollars more for one where the backlight is always on

How bright is the backlight on this keyboard because I want one that I can see all day, and is this keyboard flimsy?

The keyboard backlight is very bright and easy to read with bright overhead lights on or in sunlight. I live in the south and have very large windows in my home office and can see this as well during the day as I can at night.

This keyboard and mouse are very sturdy. I would estimate that the keyboard alone weighs well over two pounds.

I have had these two for couple of months now and am very pleased with both.

How many buttons are on the mouse on the side??

Only two buttons. It's like the forward and back button on the pages. So if you ever need to go back a page you just hit the button closest to you.

Are the keys loud and clicky?

Yes, it is a mechanical keyboard so they are fairly clickety clackety. I love it but if you don't like that style this probably isn't for you.

I was wondering. Would this keyboard and mouse be compatible with USB 3.0 on my RAIDMAX Viper GX ATX-512WBR Black/Red Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case?

No. It doesn't support 3.0. It is all USB 2.0. It will WORK like a 2.0 in a 3.0 slot. But won't come with the speed that a 3.0 keyboard and mouse would have. Does that make sense? Sorry. I'm kind of bad with explaining.
