Then this is not the one for you. I'd recommend going for a non-mechanical keyboard if you need a quiet one. Mechanical keyboards are louder than normal ones.

Backlighting presets and customization is built-in to keyboard - independent of the OS.

Will this work on a laptop as long as it remains plugged into ac?

I don't see any reason why not. Do be aware though it does draw quite a bit of power for a keyboard.  I cannot use it with a device like the xim 4 or other unpowered USB hubs. It will draw too much current

There is an indicator led on mine that randomly activated, it's in the middle of the five and has a download button underneath(arrow pointing to straight line) what does it mean?

The third led on modern keyboards is tied to the scroll lock button. It's the second from the right button on the top row of your keyboard.

Is the ugly "Z-MACHINE GAMING GEAR" logo removable?

It's removable. It's a thin plate attached with adhesive. No residue was left behind when I removed mine.
