Question 1

In the box and the details the images show the letters lighting up, but in all the reviews I've seen and some of the advertising on this very sight the background of the keys light up, which is it?

The LED appears to be behind all the keys lights them all up at once.  The letters on the keys are clear so the colored light shines through them making the letters appear the color you choose.  But it's not like each key has it's own led light shining through it.

But when I have it set to green the letter R does look green.

Question 2

Can you get these with a US layout or are they all UK layout? US keyboards don't have the same enter key that this one has and if you are comfortable using a US layout then changing to this is really hard to do.

A couple of people say this is US layout but a US layout does NOT have a 7 shaped enter key on it. The shape of the enter key displaces the backslash key in a UK layout and this keyboard follows that standard. The backspace key is the same as a US layout though which is strange but the displaced backslash key makes this keyboard almost impossible to get used to for anyone who writes code or does a lot of other work like that. I have owned keyboard like this and I can't deal with the enter key displacing the back slash key like that it throws my work off and causes mistakes in it that take to much time to correct. I am going to need to contact the company and ask about these possibly being full US layout in the future because I would love to buy a bunch of them but I can't the way they are now.

Question 3

What color back light do these have? Obviously orange is one, but what are the other six?

The other colors are purple, green, blue, red, white (looks light aqua) and yellow (looks neon green)

This is really great keyboard though, very tough built. I've had it for around two weeks now and I love it. No complaints at all!

Question 4

Seeing how I accidentally splattered a warm load of milk on several of the previous keyboards I have had within my lifetime, is this item 'spill-proof' to any extent?

No, it is definitely not spill-proof. While it's one of my favorite keyboards (I've owned 4 due to spillages, sloppy I know), just a little bit of water or liquid will kill it if it gets between the keys.

Question 5

Is this for left-handed people and the WASD and Arrow keys are swapped? And if so, can you configure it so that the WASD keys are where they are supposed to be?

I cant recall off the top of my head which it is because I'm at work, but holding the fn key and pressing another completely swaps wasd and the arrow keys, so your arrows will input wasd characters and wasd will input directions.

It is quite long, maybe 6 feet?  A warning though... my original purchase I had to send back because the electronics failed (garbage output), the second one just failed in the same way.  The first one lasted 3 months, the second about a year.  It is a great, heavy gaming keyboard... when and for how long it works.

it's very quiet. The one issue I've had so far is the CTRL button will sometimes press on its own (without me pressing the button) when the backlight is on. But this may be due to the USB port on my computer
