Fantastic Ultrawide VA 1440p Curved VA Panel, Jack of All trades, master of none kinda

Pros: - The first thing I checked was for dead/stuck pixels. From a quick close analysis with Jason Farrell's LCD Dead Pixel Test Backgrounds, no dead pixels were found at all. Switched the tool to display all the solid colors and then black and white. Display was immaculate. Maybe I need to dig out a magnifying glass to find any; this is a lot of pixels so maybe I am missing a few. But I tried to look for a good 5-10 minutes and could not find a single one. If there is one, I can't tell.

- 34" of monitor at 3440x1440 resolution holds the best DPI in my honest opinion. At this resolution if the monitor was any smaller, it would be too painful to read text. Any larger and I'd be straining my neck.

- Its strong 1500R curved attribute allows for easier viewing for the edges of the screen. The screen really gives you a nice panoramic view and you feel enveloped by the monitor itself.

- Immersive experience if viewed close.

- Two HDMI ports and a DP port allow you to not only switch between the two inputs, but this monitor has PIP (picture in picture feature).

- 100hz for refresh rate. Scrolling and mouse movements were definitely smoother in Win10. I was able to run and get 100hz on my Iris Pro 580.

- OSD button was really great to use and very intuitive. I personally like the joystick fashion for this. WAY better than a set of physical buttons.

- The default stand for this monitor is actually pretty good. The vertical movement is smooth and fluid and very easy to adjust. But more comments about this in the Cons.

- VESA mount compatible (100x100), it comes with a bracket.

- Though large in size, it is light-weight enough to be handled by just one person.

- Ultra-wide is amazing for content creation and certain games that support such a resolution setting.

- Color reproduction and viewing angles are way better than any TN.

- Faster response time than IPS and higher refresh rates (100hz) than IPS.

Cons: - As with VA panels, it is a middle of the road type of panel. Better than TN for color reproduction and viewing angles, but not as good as IPS. Better than IPS but worse than TN, for refresh rates and response times.

It can't do 120hz or 144hz like a TN panel does. But at 100hz, this is already pretty good and way better than IPS 60hz. It also produces deeper blacks than an IPS does.

It does have a 4ms response time, which is not as good as a TN 1ms response, but better than an IPS 5ms.

You should know what you're getting into when you purchase a VA panel, Samsung does a good job and tries to really push the limits of this panel by trying to find the best middle ground between TN and IPS panels.

- A monitor this large, at such a nice resolution, should be placed closer to your persons, so you can get that immersive experience. The curved aspect kinda forces this. The problem with this is that the base-stand will get in the way of your keyboard/mouse. Probably would do best if it was mounted on an monitor arm.

- To get 100hz display at 3440x1440 requires a more modern graphics card. Something older can probably do the 1440p easy, but only at 24/30hz/60hz.

- The power brick probably could've been designed a little better and because it has a brick, it might make arm mounting a little bit more limited.

- EDIT: 10/16/2018 - VESA mount adapter bracket. Everything about the VESA mount is fine except for the fact that the way the adapter is designed, it actually makes the monitor heavier on the tilt pivot point, that you need to find a much stronger monitor arm to get this thing mounted properly without sagging constantly. I had to end up getting an expensive, but totally worth the price, Ergotron HX desk monitor arm to be able to accommodate for the sheer weight of this monitor due to the VESA adapter.

Overall Review: - Tested this panel with my Macbook Pro (late 2013), and the Intel Skull Canyon NUC.

- Not experiencing the audio issue that others are reporting across DisplayPort. I am using the included miniDP to DP adapter and cable, plugged into my Intel NUC and I got audio no problems.

- Did not have a valid AMD GPU to fully test FreeSync ability.

- This monitor has a USB hub, but I am really not sure if anyone will use the ports, as they are in the back, not in an easily accessible place? But probably pretty good for peripherals like a webcam that are largely unmoving after initial setup.

- This is a fantastic monitor, pending you don't get a defective unit with dead pixels. I am not sure I could give it a 5/5 stars, but definitely 4.5+/5.

Perfect for video editing programs that take advantage of the massive width of this monitor. Maybe not the best for photo editing, but it does produce some nice blanks. Immersive gaming experience for games that can support this ultrawide resolution and REALLY great for movies nowadays that are in 21:9 aspect ratio.

EDIT: 10/16/2018
Still using this monitor to this day and it has been fantastic. I haven't experienced any of the problems that others have stated. I recently got this mounted on an Ergotron HX and my experience with it is even better.

Just like they said it would be...

Pros: Best Monitor I have had in many years, bring a heavy computer user (6-10 Hours a day) my eyes have thanked me. No more eye strain, easy viewing. The best for my two systems, for work or play (on the same monitor) the PnP is the best I have seen.

Cons: Really, I really have a hard time with this one, all the pixels work, shipped on time, price reasonable, sorry no cons at the moment, I am not saying that I may have one in the future.

Defects abound and Samsung will NOT support their product

Pros: Large screen real estate
100Hz refresh rate

Cons: Developed multiple dead pixels
Developed a "popping" sound while in sleep mode that was similar to water dripping on a surface
Samsung support portal will not recognize valid serial numbers
Extreme flickering when using the most aggressive FreeSync setting
Dead pixels are normal and do not warrant repairing or replacing an almost $1000 monitor

Overall Review: I purchased this monitor as part of a Radeon Pack along with an XFX Vega 64. My last Samsung display, which was a 40" LCD TV set, developed burn-in that is more commonly associated with with plasma technology. Initial adjustments to the 1500R curvature of the display took some time to get used to. Framerate with the Vega 64 at an ultrawide 1440p resolution were very reasonable. However, the highest FreeSync setting incurred significant backlight strobing and flickering. Continued use of this monitor with a lesser setting was fine for about sixty days. This is when the dead pixels started occurring.

Over a six month period, two dead pixels manifested. One is in the center of the screen, and the other is over on the right hand side of the screen. A few weeks ago, while the monitor was in standby mode, I heard a sound coming from my office that was indicative of water dropping on a solid surface. I scrambled to determine if there was a leak in the roof that was coming through the ceiling, only to find that it was the monitor making this noise. A power cycle solved the issue. I contacted Samsung today to have the monitor serviced as these types of behaviors and the dead pixels would not normally occur with competing products.

Their website refused to acknowledge the serial number of the monitor as being valid. The alternate path to obtaining service required calling in and speaking with a customer service representative. They followed their script and asserted that there's nothing wrong and I just need to live with the problems with this unit. If we're talking about an inexpensive refurbished monitor with a very short warranty, I'd accept the dead pixels and call it a day. As this was a non-trivial purchase that is used for media editing and gaming, I can't "unsee" the dead pixels and all freely available "pixel unstick" utilities were unable to bring them back to life.

The combination of poor support web site functionality, a problematic monitor that will not be fixed under an alleged three year warranty, and the inability of Samsung to do the right thing results in a 1 egg score. I would not recommend this monitor in any way, shape or form. If you like setting piles of money on fire and are willing to accept a subpar product with no support in the event of multiple flaws, feel free to purchase this. If you value your technology investments and have a reasonable expectation that a display with multiple errors would be covered under a standard warranty, pick any other brand and enjoy a more reliable display that is covered by a higher level of support.

BEWARE! Bezel Cracked within months - Samsung Won't Cover Under Warranty

Pros: - Hasn't stopped working yet.

Cons: - Chipped bezel out of the box
- Crack formed in bezel within 4 months of purchase
- Samsung won't repair under warranty due to "physical damage"

Overall Review: I bought this monitor in November 2017. Right out of the box, I noticed a small notch in the bottom-right-corner of the bezel where the gray paint was chipped, exposing white plastic underneath. This was extremely disappointing for a $600 monitor, and I struggled for days with the decision of whether I should sent the monitor back for a replacement. I ultimately decided to keep the monitor. It seemed to have no dead pixels, and I weighed the risk of getting a replacement with dead pixels as too high. I figured I would rather have a bit of chipped plastic than dead pixels.

Now, less than 4 months later, a crack has formed in the bezel directly where the plastic was chipped in the corner. This crack seems to be due to the weight of the monitor screen, because if I press upwards firmly in the corner I can visibly see the screen shift upwards and the size of the crack reduce. The crack first formed about 5 days ago, and it's grown in size since then. I am very concerned that whatever root cause for this crack will eventually lead to some sort of catastrophic failure in the monitor. The monitor is currently functioning fine still, but there's no telling what might happen as the screen continues to shift and the crack continues to widen.

I just spoke with Samsung CS regarding a warranty repair, and I was told that they would not cover physical damage under the warranty. With an individual crack like this, there's no way to prove what caused it. I obviously can't prove to Samsung that I didn't make the crack myself. All I can tell them (and I did) is that I have been very careful and have not damaged the monitor in any way, but I was told that they won't honor the warranty because of the physical damage. So at this point my only option is to catalog my issue and try to spread word to prevent others from making the same mistake as me. DON'T BUY THIS MONITOR. I'll also point to another review here on NewEgg posted by "Anonymous" at 1/5/2018 11:54:58 AM, who seemingly encountered the same cracked bezel issue as me. He posted a similar review on another online retailer, but with supporting pictures to show the crack. It matches my problem. I will be doing the same on the other retailer as well to ensure pictures get out showing that this cracking issue is more than a one-off problem.

Oh, and I will never buy another Samsung monitor again.

UPDATED: Great monitor, HORRIBLE QC (0/6 or 7)

Pros: Personally, I find the curvature and the 21:9 format excellent, but your mileage may vary.
Excellent colors, very high accuracy from factory testing, decently high refresh rate (100 Hz).
Though not as wide angle and accurate at oblique angles as IPS panels, the VA panel still maintains good color for expected viewing angles.
Comes fully assembled, stand adjusts up and down along with tilt, does not pan.
Thin bezel, joystick controller on the back.
Speakers are some of the better I've heard on monitors, though I typically use either my headset or a separate speaker/amplifier.
Comes with a back panel cover for your cords.

Cons: You can get it in any color, as long as it's white.
This is my fourth monitor.
Every one of them, including this one, has had dead pixels. This is something I would expect from a B grade manufacturer, not from one that makes their own panels and is considered A grade, ESPECIALLY for one of their top of the line models that has a MSRP of $950.
UPDATE:
After more than six months of returns, I have managed to get a monitor back with dead pixels every time. Honestly, I've lost count of it it's whether six or seven.

Overall Review: If you're okay with the fact that *7/7 monitors I've received have had varying amount of dead pixels then this is otherwise and excellent monitor.
Newegg's and Samsung's customer service each time assisted me in getting a replacement monitor, but I've decided to stop playing the pixel lottery for now unless either Newegg or Samsung would be willing to ship me a monitor that does not have any dead pixels.

Great moniter

Pros: Great picture. Easy to get setup and running

Cons: Not used to one button to control the whole thing. Never seen a toggle button like a joystick on a screen before. Still getting the hang of it even after a few months. The directions are not detailed enough to help with things like this.

Overall Review: As for all the negative reviews about the moniter just completely failing after a few months or a year don't make sense. I've had mine for a few months and bot one issue. Are bad reviews from customers that rage and throw their gaming controller at the screen or they play 24/7 and they burned it out? I have nothing but good things to say about this moniter. Especially since I was able to take advantage of the holiday sale price of like $650. No regrets.

Nice when it works but quality control is terrible

Pros: - Good colors
- Minimal light bleed (well, the second monitor anyway)
- Ultrawide format

Cons: - Very poor quality for a Samsung product

Overall Review: I have two Samsung TVs that cost less than this monitor, but both have proven to be much more reliable. The first monitor I received did have some light bleed but NewEgg was kind enough to replace it.

The second monitor was fine for about ten months. Then I noticed a small hairline crack in the silver trim along the bottom. Since the display panel was good, I chose to ignore it. Now, the monitor has just failed completely. The display went out while I was working. I checked the power connections and noticed a burnt plastic smell and some black dust near the air vents.

Fortunately, I am still in warranty but Samsung will not replace it without first attempting a repair. I will be without a monitor until then.
