Does the blue light always stay on or is there a way to disable it, so that when you shut your pc down it turns off?

That's a good question! I'd like to know the answer too. I have two of these mouse's and I really like them. connected to my laptop the blue LED shuts off when it's turned off and when I had an ASUS P8B75M/CSM motherboard in my desktop the blue LED shut off when it was shut down too.
A week ago I upgraded to an ASUS P8Z77-V-Pro motherboard in my desktop and the mouse Blue LED and one LED on my keyboard stay on when the computer is shut off. It's in my bedroom so I want it to turn off at night and the only way to do that right now is turn off the UPS battery backup my computer is plugged into after the computer shuts down. 
I'm going to call ASUS tech support and ask them if there is a BIOS setting or something I can change to make the mouse LED shut off when the computer shuts down. 
If I can let you know what I find out I will. Meanwhile I shut off the UPS at night to make it go dark or I could put something over the mouse at night. I guess you could take the mouse apart and remove the LED but I really don't want to do that.

What colors can it light up with?

The one color you see.  The CPI button on top only changes the sensitivity of the optics. It is a decent mouse for the price.  But I only used it until I could afford a Logitec G502.  This one is now being used on my Daughters Desktop, and still running just fine for over a year now.

This is a standard size desktop mouse not a small one like a laptop mouse.  Onle disturbing thing about this mouse is that if your USB ports are energized when the system is off the mouse shines a very bright blue.  It is very sensitive and works quite well it is wired

I would guess about 6 feet long, i have it wrapped from my tower through my desk onto the keyboard tray and have more than enough room.

Silly question but first time with a programmable mouse... how do i get to programming it?

As Scott said, use the designated "DPI" button, it has 3 pre-set DPI's aka Low - Medium & High settings, the actual DPI I think is something like 800, 1600, 2100

Does it work connected with Laptops?

Yes, it works with any laptop that has working USB ports.

Is there any visual indication on the mouse to what DPI you currently have it set at?  (Like light brightness, color change, etc.)

Move your mouse and look at your screen each time you click the button to change the DPI. That's the only way you can tell. By the fourth click it should be on 2400.

What is the specific weight of the mouse without the cord? It is not listed under specs.
