- SPOEB10xx-105 is a 10/100 Ethernet copper to fiber PoE media converter that enables enterprises to provide power to network devices over the existing CAT5 data connection.
Transition Networks' AC powered PoE media converters combine data received over a fiber optic link with
-48 VDC power; providing power to Data Terminal Equipment (DTE) Power Devices (PD) over unshielded twisted pair cable. The PoE converters are Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) and are fully compatible with Powered Devices (PD) that comply with the IEEE 802.3af: 2003 standard. The converters also include a PD signature sensing and power monitoring features per the IEEE 802.3af standard. Other features include Over-Current Protection, Under-Current Detection and Fault Protection Input.
This feature enhanced model offers the ability to enable/disable many of the features as well as force port capabilities.
In addition, with the PSE/LPT switch enabled, a loss of Fiber RX will disable PSE power output on the UTP port for 2 seconds to allow remote device to re-initialize. (Also known as Powered Device Reset.)
The PoE converter is fully compatible with devices that comply with the IEEE
802.3af standard. The PoE converter is capable of inserting power on data pairs or spare pair of the MDI.

The Transition Networks SPOEB10xx-105 is a 10/100 Mbps copper-to-fiber PoE media converter that combines fiber-link data with IEEE 802.3af power for compatible network devices over CAT5, making it suitable for enterprise and network installations extending fiber to PoE-powered equipment.
Recommended For
- Network installers extending a 10/100 Ethernet connection over a compatible 100Base-FX fiber link to one remote device, such as a network camera, wireless access point, or VoIP phone.
- Organizations with fiber already run to a remote location that need to convert the fiber connection to copper Ethernet and supply IEEE 802.3af PoE to a single compatible device.
- Facilities or network teams replacing a point-to-point copper Ethernet segment with fiber while retaining a PoE-powered endpoint, provided the far end has a compatible 100Base-FX connection.
- Installers who want link-loss signaling and a remote-device restart option for a fiber-connected PoE endpoint; the converter supports Link Pass Through and can briefly interrupt PoE after fiber-link loss when configured for that feature.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- To connect a compatible 802.3af network camera over a fiber link, an installer can place the converter near the camera and use a short Ethernet cable for both data and power. The camera can then communicate across the fiber connection without a separate camera power adapter; the converter itself still needs local AC power.
- When a compatible 802.3af wireless access point needs to connect to a fiber-backed network, the converter can translate the fiber link to Ethernet and supply PoE over the access point’s Ethernet cable. This is useful where fiber reaches the endpoint area but the final device connection is copper.
- For a compatible 802.3af VoIP phone at a fiber-served location, the converter can provide the final Ethernet connection and power over one cable. The phone can join the network without a separate phone power adapter, provided the converter has local AC power.
- When extending a legacy 10/100 Ethernet connection onto a fiber run, the converter can bridge the fiber link to a Fast Ethernet copper device. The practical result is a fiber connection at the site and a familiar Ethernet connection for the endpoint, as long as the fiber equipment and link are compatible.
- If the connected PoE device needs to be restarted after a fiber-link interruption, enabling the converter’s link-pass-through and PoE-reset settings can briefly interrupt its power and restart it. This can help restore a remote endpoint without manually unplugging its Ethernet cable.
