Good laptop 11/24/2008 5:05:07 PM

Pros: Great laptop if all you do is surf the web, work with some documents, and use web mail. Everything works right out of the box.

Cons: Not many. Once and a while it slows down or locks up, but just reboot and everything is fine.

my 1st netbook 11/19/2008 7:26:19 AM

Pros: extremely low price, weight, great looks, attention getter, gets the job done without any modding to the OS, don't have to add any software and it isn't bloated with unnecessary software

Cons: battery lasts two and a half hours, over sensitive touch pad (yes i adjusted the settings)

Overall Review: i love it, it's a great buy. i have no regrets purchasing it

Perfect travel companion 11/7/2008 6:04:22 PM

Pros: Small, Light, wifi, 2 flash media slots

Cons: Touchpad, tough to add ram

Overall Review: This is the perfect travel companion. It's compact and light, yet large enough to type on if you don't have big hands. The touchpad leaves a lot to be desired, but other than that, and the ram installation process, I have little to no complaints about the product.

As usual, Newegg has been a pleasure to deal with.

Pretty Neat 11/6/2008 9:42:10 AM

Pros: Small

Cons: Horrible SSD if you were to install Windows XP.
The left/right mouse touchpad key location sucks.
Have to open the entire unit to get to the ram expansion slot.

Overall Review: I bought it for my mother and when it arrived I formatted and installed Windows XP Pro. The performance was very bad, but after upgrading the ram to 1.5 GB and disabling the page file it seemed to have improved things. I would still consider it too slow for myself to use but she loves it and manages just fine.

Bang for the Buck 10/17/2008 9:36:58 AM

Pros: this thing is just wonderful. I use it as my school and home laptop computer. Its fast and the keyboard is just the right size (not too small you cant type, but just big enough that you can do anything with it.) (typing this up on it right now)

Cons: I HATED the linpus light that came with the laptop. It was the dumbest version of linux i have every seen. (i have 5 different versions of linux i use on a daily basis and i could not stand that linpus for the life of me.) that being said i put the 8.04.1 build of my fav linux on here. (UBUNTU) it was a snap and now this Acer operates as a full computer and not some dumbed down play toy. Which i must say can handle every thing you throw at it.

Overall Review: the bat is about 3 hours with linpus on there.
BUT because Ubuntu requires more things it hogs the bat life down to about 2.05 hours. but i would say that its not a bad thing. still two hours.

the screen has that gloss look to it. which i dont like my self, but others do!

when typing some times it will lagg a bit, on online things. ( so like right now its about 2 seconds behind what i am actually typing. ( NOTE THIS COULD BE ONLY BECAUSE I HAVE UBUNTU RUNNING, i have no idea if this would carry over to the stock OS)

a small amount of heat does come off of the keyboard. the atom is great (first intel processor ive ever owned, and im impressed) but it does need to get rid of the heat some how and the keyboard acts kinda like a heat sink.

Great for note taking 10/16/2008 2:01:41 PM

Pros: Small size, light weight, good speed for basic activities (watching movies, playing older games, internet, email, word processing, etc), fast boot, multi card reader, dedicated sd card reader, 3 usb ports, excellent led backlit screen, low price

Cons: low memory, SLOW ssd write speed, crippled linux, loud synaptics pad buttons

Overall Review: installing extra memory was a pain. i had to load windows xp through a usb flash drive, which can be difficult for most users. getting xp to run quickly took some effort. not all xp drivers installed because of sp3, so you have to temporarily edit a field in the registry. the ssd can be replaced with a fast cf card using an adapter or you can buy a cheap 30gb 1.8" hdd. to get around the slow ssd, i'm using my ram memory as storage for installing programs and accessing files that i need quickly but one restart wipes out the ram storage drive, so don't save files to it.

it's great to have a low cost, small and light weight laptop to throw in my bag.

I FOUND A BATTERY SOURCE! 10/10/2008 8:59:30 AM

Pros: This thing is light, fast to boot, works great with the wireless at work and everywhere else, and the Linpus is OK, especially once you learn how to access the Fluxbox menu. I get 2.5 hours of battery life, I can type fine, but then I am a four finger semi-hunt and peck typist, not a touch typist. I have more USB ports than a Macbook, and my friends with Macbooks have now lost that smug smile as they try to tell me the iSight camera is worth the extra money compared to the PC laptops. I guess $800 extra is a little much for a camera, especially since I have one too, plus card readers...
Anyway, I found that the "auction site we all know, but the filters won't allow" in Europe, specifically the German/Swiss speaking one, is selling 3 cell batteries for about $80 US with shipping. Not sure they will ship to the US for that price....

Cons: Can't get my friends to quit wanting to play with it...

Pros: excellent product, all of the hardware in this note book is remarkable and it is very quick for no more ram than it comes with. A very solid machine in my opinion

Cons: I've been using windows since i was about 12 so the transition to linux after more than 15 years being out of the loop was some what difficult. The linux version that the note book comes with is some what restrictive and requires some work. the application download tool in the advanced menu (which by the way is hidden and must be unlock) doesn't allow you to switch to Gnome or Kde desktop environments as it may seem based on the list of downloads available. After two weeks of trying to tweak the xfce desktop to my own preferences I ended up crashing it completely.

Overall Review: after crashing xfce i switched to ubunto and Gnome. both are
working excellent. Which brings me to my only other thought why didn't acer just install ubunto since it doesn't really take up any more space than linpus
