with this tablet can we use sim cards??  or its specific to only wi fi???

Not sure what you mean by sim cards, if you mean micro SD cards that serve as additional memory storage, the answer is yes.  If a sim card is something else, I don't know the answer.  I keep  a 32 GB micro SD card in my tablet and have others with different content (mainly movies) I can swap out when traveling.

Can this device download books and magazines from Amazon, like a Kindle?

My daughter does not use it for that purpose so honestly, I do not know; however, she does use it for internet, adds apps (i don't even ask) and she loves this one.  My past experience with these type of thing is to buy the extended warranty.  I have had to send tablets back to newegg for both of my kids because their tablets "went south" on them.  If not for the warranty, I would be out about $500.

Can this be used with 3G or 4G from Verizon or AT&T?

This particular Galaxy Tab 3 7" is NOT a cell phone.  It is strictly a WI-FI device...it is a great little tablet for what it is intended to do, but still small in size compared to many of the 10.1" tablets (also WI-FI only.  They connect to the internet over any available wireless connection (home network via wireless router) or free hotspot, therefor 3g or 4g is not the issue.  Most phone companies sell a cell phone tablet device, newer models up to 7 to 8", but they require cell phone contracts, simm cards

Does this model have built in GPS?

There is no GPS in the tablet as delivered but you can download an APP to turn the tablet into an extremely accurate 7" GPS device. Use "Be On Road" by Aponia Software from the Google Play Store (free app) and purchase the lifetime, yearly updatable for free, NAVTEQ maps from them for $24 (same maps as used in many GPS devices). Also, download "GPS Status & Toolbox" by MobiWIA from the Google Play store (free app). It provides a transparent enhanced "radar" type location finder for any locator program you may run on the tablet. If you add a "Arkon SM517 Windshield Mount for iPad mini and 7-Inch Tablets", you will have a fully functional 7" GPS device to use when walking or driving. (Don't let it block your field of view of the road and don't tell the police I said for you to do it). LOL

Can I handwrite a message with a stylus, then convert it to a text file that can be inserted into an email and sent? The point is to avoid keyboarding email messages.

...It does not come with a stylus, but there is no reason you could not purchase one separately, and download some gesture software into it... If you really want to use a stylus a lot then you probably want the Galaxy Note, not the Tab.

Yes it has a built in Microphone....you can Skype on it using Skype WiFi from the play store.  The tab 3 7.0 is awesome..the graphics are awesome...I watch TV on mine..A good investment.

How can I import an Excel file from my computer to the Tablet?

1) Are you looking to access it using a spreadsheet program (there are ways) or just to pull the data up?

2) Are you wanting to manipulate the data in question?

I would say you can likely convert it to a google office ("docs") spreadsheet file, and put it on your google drive, then access it via wifi and the internet. (Search keywords: Google office, google docs, google drive for explanations)

Alternately, you can e-mail it to yourself, and save it locally.

Or, third option, if you have an SD card reader, you can take the SD card out of the GT3, put it into your computer, and copy the data to it either as a spreadsheet doc using whatever spreadsheet you plan to use, or export it as a .csv file, and copy THAT to the SD card. Then move the SD card back to the GT3 and  pull it up using whatever program you plan to access it with.

You can't use Excel directly, mind you, the GT3 runs Android, which is a flavor of Linux, so windows programs do not run directly on it.

More of an answer than that, you'll really need the help of a tech-savvy person to assist you. If you're the kind of person who can/wants to figure it out yourself, probably the easiest thing to do may be to convert the excel sheet to a google docs file and pull it up via the web browser.

I would get a "10" unless there is something new available even faster(I'm not an expert).  The faster the card speed the faster the upload.  Great tablet in every respect.

A SD or SDHC card will not work. The device supports only microSD or microSDHC cards up to a maximum of 64GB.

The tablet is not a phone and cannot use a SIM card like AT&T or T-mobile phones use. It can have external memory added to it via microSD or MicroSDHC cards up to a maximum of 64GB.
