Pros: I've had this machine for a day now. It feels pretty solid. Has a nice bright screen, and a good feel on the keyboard. First day's battery life was about 6.5-7 hours, but I left everything on full and did ridiculous things you wouldn't do on a battery like encoding a dvd. It comes with everything pre-loaded, XP Home with SP3... but the HDD is partitioned into two 80 gig partitions. I did a clean install from an external DVD drive, and made 1 160 gig partition (deleted all existing partitions). It's running great. ASUS provided disc had all the drivers I needed. DVD encoding performance was about 1/3 what it was on my other computer (laptop, with T5300 CPU, 4 gigs ram). This is my only solid comparison so far. Photoshop CS2 and Office 2000 run fine on it for basic tasks. Webpages take a little longer to load, but not to the point where it hinders function. I was not disappointed at all. Very satisfied, but not super impressed/surprised.
Cons: One small thing is that on the side of the machine that has 2 mouse ports, my usb flash drive (which has a rubber casing) pushes the other device connector such that it's a little crooked. Worked, but seems kinda sketch - like it might not be good for the usb port. Device cables will be fine, but some proprietary flash drives may not fit. The touchpad is sensitive, and when typing, your right hand may trigger clicks. The keyboard is pretty good, but the keys sometimes are also sensitive, and I get some double letters, and flubbed keystrokes. I'm not used to it yet. It's not a desktop replacement, but it's also not intended to be. When they find a way to format a usb flash drive into UDF/CD-rom/dvd format, it'll be damnn near close to a potential replacement - but a slower one. By comparison, the new core i7 chips are just waaay faster, but desktops are always faster.
Overall Review: One guy said something about it showing two LAN connections. One is the wired LAN, and the other is the Bluetooth LAN feature, which shows up in the system tray the same way the wired LAN connection does. Several years ago, I got a Fujitsu P2040, which at the time was designed with the same ideals as the netbooks now - low power consumption, small, light, etc... (it had the Transmeta Crusoe CPU, which some may remember - turned out to be a huge dissapointment). So far, this machine seems to be everything I had hoped that one would be. It's nice. I like it. I hate taking my current laptop to school because it's another 10 lbs., and I have to plug it in before the day's work is done (so I have to take the power adapter too, and my backpack is only so big). I'm looking forward to taking this thing instead. If you're thinking about getting one... get one.
Pros: Was looking for a portable option with long battery life for travel and "insurance" that if it broke or got fried on bad power sources then I wouldn't be too disappointed (= "cheap"). It has proved to be everything mentioned in the NewEgg comments--reliable, about 6.5 h of power, good for airplanes, small screen but do-able, and yes, fingerprints (mud washes off well). Low bloatware, good for single activities. Types well once you're used to it. really perfect for watching NetFlix on-demand movies when not working. Use to VPN into my main box in my office; works great. Fits in the seat pocket in front of you on the plane, and tucks into a shoulder bag or briefcase without noticing. Pretty burly design, though I have not dropped it on purpose (yet). Great screen resolution and works well with skype (cam installed). The long power cable is a definite plus. My wife wants it so I'm shopping for another, looking at eee as the prime candid
Cons: The smaller screen is a bit of an issue if you are really needing to get things done. I am a consulting scientist and bought for a field computer and general in-touch device. The small screen has limitations when running GIS or other graphic needs; processor speed shouldn't be considered stellar, but it's a <$400 NETBOOK. The fact that stuff even starts up is a wonder. Other cons: the volume and general system adjusts (brightness, etc.) requires function+key operation (big deal). The touchpad sometimes gets hit by my thumb and moves the cursor when I don't want it to. The CRT plug in has no screws to lock down if you want to use a projector (i.e. can loosen up on you and break the project contact). Probably the biggest con is that I chose a small netbook and what I probably really needed was a slightly bigger netbook (hence my shopping now) -- mainly for screen size when I need to work abroad.
Overall Review: I immediately upgraded the RAM to 2GB and it didn't flinch and ran better. I wiped the disk clean and partitioned into 3 parts--1 for XP, 1 for Ubuntu linux (upgraded to the 9.10 karmic netbook remix), and 1 for files. Easy grub dual boot and both worked well. Ubuntu figured everything out and didn't need to hassle at all. The overall objective of this machine is to remain "empty" of important files, exporting off the machine when I get back to my office. Works great in that capacity. Overall a very good little machine that's way worth the money if you understand the utility and limitations of a netbook.
Pros: small, but not too small. When I first saw the keyboard I thought there is no way my big hands will ever be able to type on this tiny thing, but I am writing my review with it right now. The keyboard is by far the best on any netbook i have ever used and that is coming from someone who is 6'10 with a football build. I love this little thing, only 2 major flaws listed below; the camera stinks and has no software to fix low lighting, and the recovery files are on a disk. Don't get me wrong this is the best netbook out as of 06/18/09. But nothing is flawless. The speakers were surprisingly great for a laptop and the software for them rocks. Its fast, cheap, reliable, well built, the range and connection speeds I get with the N network are amazing. (You'll need an N Router to take full advantage of this) I never thought I would like a netbook this much, but I now use it all the time even over my desktop PC when I am at home to lay in bed and watch movies with my girlfriend.
Cons: Camera is horrible in low light, even medium lighting, and it has no camera software to fix this. No CD drive (obviously its a netbook), but the recovery files are on a disk!!! Luckily there is software on the web to boot from a flash drive once you copy some files and your ghost image to it. This means you'll need to go buy a 4gb flash drive, or an external disk drive to recover your system. Asus and other companies should take the hint and have the recovery images and software come preloaded on a 4gb flash drive with every netbook. It would only cost them 5 to 10 dollars, at most, and help the consumer out tremendously. I now keep a recovery flash drive on my key-chain in case my netbook should ever fail. Not a big deal, but I did have to waste my last 4gb usb drive on it. Also there is a bit of bloatware on the system from factory, nothing excessive, but enough to waste 20 minutes of your day removing it. You can expect that with any computer that you didnt build yourself though.
Overall Review: Cheap 4GB USB Flash Drives with ghost images and recovery software should come with all netbooks. Get with it Computer companies, why didnt you think of this first... tisk tisk, you're slacking people. This is still the best bang for your buck. It is super cheap, and a high quality product, their costumer service is horrible, but the product is good, so chances are you'll never actually need it if you know what youre doing. I would recommend this to anyone in the market for a fast reliable little traveling laptop. I even plan on buying one for my niece for Christmas I liked it so much. You can waste a month of your time reading review after review on websites and in print about netbooks searching for the best one, and you'll end up right here, so do yourself a favor and buy it. I spent countless hours researching laptops before deciding on this netbook based on price, features, reliability, battery life, and magazine reviews, I bought one here and I am not disappointed.
Pros: I've had my 1000HE for about a month, and my overall thoughts are positive. * Battery life is good (although not 9.5 hours, at least not with wi-fi on)... I can squeeze out maybe 7 hours with screen brightness on low and wi-fi on. * Screen is beautiful and can get VERY bright. In fact, I usually turn the brightness down to about 25% and it's just fine for most situations indoors. * Great specs, tons of hard drive space, runs XP very snappily. Great for web browsing, although I have noticed some flash-heavy video streams (like MSNBC) are pretty framey... But YouTube runs just fine. * Easy 2GB memory upgrade. Took me about ten minutes. * Keyboard is comfy. * Hibernates great, no problem. I've had other XP machines that have issues with hybernate, but this starts up VERY quick.
Cons: * Trackpad is utter carp. The touch is WAY too sensitive. I often find myself attempting a drag, but it keeps selecting items as if I am clicking on the pad. Also, have tried the multitouch commands (such as the scroll), but it doesn't work half as good as HP or Dell pads. I think, part of the reason, it that Asus is using some other Taiwanese trackpad manufacturer, not Synaptic as HP and Dell use. Also, the buttons below the pad take quite a bit of effort to click. Hoping I will break these in. * The keyboard sometimes registers duplicate clicks. Not a huge issue, but can be annoying from time to time. * The slip cover is okay, but since you will need a good mouse with this (get the Logitech Nano VX) because the trackpad is so carppy, I would get a nicer slip cover from Case Logic. * It is a fingerprint magnet, but I don't care.
Overall Review: Overall, a great value for the price. The bottom line is, great battery power, good screen, great price. Sure, you won't be gaming on this... But heck, there hasn't been a really good PC game to come out in months anyways.
Pros: Beautiful screen, loud speakers, very large and comfortable track pad, amazing battery life, easy to install 2 gigs of RAM, blue tooth, great integrated camera... it just goes on and on. This thing blows every other netbook I've owned (an Acer Aspire One) or played around with (others) out of the water.
Cons: Hard drive came partitioned into two drives; no biggie, was easily fixed using freeware partition management software.
Overall Review: I've never done a review before, but I am so pleased w/this purchase I had to comment. Read about this baby on a forum page talking about how great the Dell Mini 10 is supposed to be; someone mentioned this as a cheaper, better alternative, and I'm glad I listened! Dell's model hasn't even become available yet, and will be more expensive than the one I've already got!
Pros: Small, light, and pretty powerful for a low-price netbook... Battery life is amazing -- even when my battery is in the red, I can keep using it for an hour or two longer. Also, it's not a gaming machine, but it's enough to play Quake Live.
Cons: The hard drive it came with was bad. It's a Seagate drive, so this really surprised me; I could have RMA'd it at no charge, but I decided to just get a 320GB drive from a local store and use that instead. After putting the new drive in, it hasn't had any more hardware problems.
Overall Review: With the new drive and a 2GB stick of RAM I put in it, it runs XP pro and Ubuntu 9.04 beautifully. I didn't have any trouble with getting either OS to work with it (except of course that I had to get an external optical drive to install from). This is a wonderful machine, and it's making all of my classmates and co-workers jealous, including my friend who just bought an HP netbook that isn't as fancy for about the same price.
Pros: Small, Light, huge battery life, reasonable screen size, 1024x768 scrollable screen, easily accessible RAM and HDD locations. Comes ready go go straight out of the box. With very little freeware to slow it down. Awesome little machine. Keys give a nice click when depressed. Good Price
Cons: keyboard size is a little hard at first, just because of the compacted size of the unit, but after a couple of weeks, it's fine... the mouse keys get finicky every once in a while after prolonged usage, but nothing horrible... poor graphics. incapable of playing most computer games.
Overall Review: I'm thouroghly impressed with this little machine. When I got it, I turned it on to make sure it worked stock, and then immediately replaced the hard drive with a Momentus 320gb 7200rpm hard drive, and I doubled the RAM to 2GB. It runs like a champ. Planning on converting to SSD when I get back from my current trip. It's an awesome machine, and has held up to being brought nearly half way around the world. I've been in Egypt for 3 months now, and still have had absolutely no problems with this machine. Wonderful for word processing and surfing the web.

Pros: - I type thirty or so pages a week between three different computers. The keyboard on this little guy works great for my purposes. I'm 6'3", 280 lb. and yeah, I have big hands. - Minimal bloatware. Took just a couple minutes to remove the stuff I didn't want. - Attractive and practical design. - It has a good display and decent sound... for a netbook. - While it was no use to me, it came with some basic office programs already loaded. Just one of many things Asus did to try and make this netbook ready to use straight out of the box. - At least so far... the battery life is pretty close to what's advertised.
Cons: - It attracts finger prints like bees to flowers. Get skins/decals/stickers for the outside cover if you're really OCD. - Doesn't make coffee. - Bulky. The wife has a 1000HA with a 2 cell battery and it is soo slim and strim looking compared to mine. Hers is a half pound lighter too. She still gets 4-5 hours of battery life out of hers even with the smaller battery.
Overall Review: For the money, it's one of the best netbooks out there. I looked at almost every netbook available and read over 500 reviews before deciding on this one. I bought the 1000HA (brushed aluminized) for my wife because she didn't need the battery life and wanted something more professional looking.
